As a Director of Data Operations at Citymapper, you will lead the teams and systems that keep our product accurate, reliable, and ready to scale. You will set direction, make high-stakes prioritisation decisions, and ensure the function delivers on its commercial and operational impact. This is a hands-on leadership role where your decisions directly shape how people move through cities.
About The Role
- Set operational direction and structure, balancing day-to-day priorities with long-term planning, team capacity, and growth.
- Lead, mentor, and guide managers, stepping in to unblock teams, resolve issues, and maintain focus.
- Drive operational excellence, including prioritisation, workflow optimisation, and ensuring teams focus on work that delivers the most business impact.
- Partner closely with Engineering to shape tools, systems, and processes that enable teams to operate efficiently at scale.
- Collaborate with Commercial and Product teams to translate strategic priorities into operational plans.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve ways of working, processes, and organisational structure to increase efficiency, scalability, and impact.
About You
- You bring at least 8 yearsβ experience and have held leadership roles managing teams in a fast-moving, technically complex environment.
- Commercially and operationally minded, you make the right trade-offs, prioritise impact, and keep teams moving in the right direction.
- Hands-on: you jump in to remove blockers, tackle challenges, and support the team.
- Technically fluent: you understand the work of engineers and data teams, and translate between technical and business contexts.
- An exceptional communicator with high emotional intelligence, you influence, inspire, and align teams across roles, regions, and cultures.
- Structured, methodical, and highly organised, you define ways of working, track progress, and drive operational improvements.
- You are passionate about cities, public transport, and data, and motivated by creating products that millions of people rely on every day.
