Assistant District Highways Manager

Via East Midlands are currently seeking an Assistant District Highways Manager to join our Highways Management team based out of our Trent Bridge House Office in West Bridgford.

What you’ll do:

  • To investigate and resolve a wide range of highway management problems and solutions are delivered ensuring that costs are controlled, income is maximised, customer satisfaction is achieved.
  • Form constructive and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • To use initiative to overcome often-complex problems, including emergencies, to overcome potentially dangerous and hazardous situations on the highway.
  • Take a lead in the receiving of calls and the communication of urgent problems on the Highway to Via’s Emergency Response Team.
  • To assist in effectively managing and controlling allocated budgets and income streams to ensure that the financial performance of the business is in line with project, service and business plan financial targets.
  • To assist in the development and control of an effective programme of scheme delivery within the allocated geographical area.
  • To support in the development of the Highway Management Team to grow the service and improve the reputational and financial standing of the business.

What we’re seeking:

  • Good interpersonal skills with a high level of personal drive. Acts as an advocate for change, projecting confidence about the future and building energy within the team.
  • Some experience in a highway or civil engineering related field with evidence of continuous professional development and ideally industry related knowledge in the highway environment.
  • Proven experience in a role requiring problem solving, combined with the ability to work with others to exceed customer expectations and anticipate the future needs of customers.
  • A high level of competency to deal with difficult customers on the telephone or face to face.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and can adapt thinking to meet the changing business needs.
  • The ability to investigate issues from all viewpoints to achieve positive outcomes.
