CTC Pressings Group incorporates The Cheshire Tool Company Ltd. (CTC) and ALT Engineering. They are established metal manufacturing businesses that serve a range of customers from global blue-chip organisations to smaller SMEs in providing metal parts and components. CTC focuses on metal pressings and stamping of tooled components, while ALT specialises in fabricated parts. The Group services a global customer base with around 30% of Group sales in exports.
The Group is profitable, generating around £1.4m in revenues at a good margin, and the objective of this role is for the successful candidate to work for the team to increase turnover to over £2m. The role will have a basic salary of £27,000, a car allowance (£360 p.m.), and offer significant bonuses for generating new business.
Sales and new business development is key to the Group’s development. Our core skills to date have focused on developing more business with existing customers, and we have had reasonable success with this, but we now require a dedicated new business resource. Other new business sales have traditionally come through referrals and word of mouth; however, we do subscribe to a new business online portal as a resource. The successful candidate will develop and data-mine this portal with the Technical Director’s support.
We expect the successful candidate to develop the wider sales and marketing activities generally, including the company website and social media presence, which is nonexistent. We will commit an annual budget (TBA) to support this development. This role requires a sales and business development person who can visit new potential customers with a degree of technical knowledge about what we can do and represent the Group at trade fairs and exhibitions with the CEO. They will also be expected to contribute to the development of the company’s marketing.
There is a lot of historical data in the company that needs to be invigorated, so this role will require energy to categorise this.
Roles and ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Technical Director / Managing Director, this role involves understanding the business’ products and capabilities and existing customers about the products and components we produce for them. There will be significant time needed to be spent on this. The successful candidate will then be required to research other companies, build up target new customer lists, and present ideas for filtering with the Technical Director.
The role will include a car, so the successful candidate will be required to physically visit all existing customers and agree meetings with new targets. This will form part of the bonus award, to be agreed. A bonus will be drawn to award both new customer visits and new business quotes on and new business won. Due to the nature of our business, which typically includes long-term customer supply, a continuous bonus (level to be agreed) would be paid on all revenue generated from those customers during the term of employment.
PersonalityThis industry typically has an older workforce; however, the Group is open to interviewing candidates of all ages. Commitment to travel, both in the UK and overseas, is fundamental. This role requires energy and commitment to travel to ‘make things happen’. As there is a car included in the package, the successful candidate must be a self-starter who can research the market (with support/under instruction), make appointments using both existing customers and from researched customers, and physically visit new and existing customers.
Oftentimes, they will be required to accompany the CEO to see customers, to be introduced and to develop accounts. The bonus element of remuneration will include key performance indicators (KPIs) linked to the number of customer visits, new companies visited, trade exhibitions attended, and other ‘non-direct sales activities undertaken. They will also be required to research suitable trade shows and agree with the Technical Director to attend such trade shows as a delegate, often on their own and sometimes with the CEO/Technical Director. They will also be required to host and attend future trade shows that the company may decide to exhibit. They may also be required to travel overseas to see existing and potential customers (The Group has c.30% exports).
ProspectsThis role has the potential to work within a very flat organisational structure to develop existing relationships, court new business, travel, have the freedom of a car to make their own appointments, and will offer significant ongoing bonuses for success.
The role will be based out of the Timperley head office, and the candidate will have a desk there; however, we expect the successful candidate to be on the road, seeing customers, and a balance of working from home will be acceptable.
