This role will focus on designing, delivering and embedding sales training across the business, with particular emphasis on new business generation, client development, recruiter productivity and consistent use of VHR sales processes.

Working closely with sales leaders and consultants across all VHR offices, the L&D Manager will help improve sales capability, support career progression, and monitor performance against key activity and outcome KPIs.

  • Develop training covering the full recruitment sales cycle, including prospecting, new business calls, client qualification, objection handling, relationship building, account development, negotiation and closing techniques.
  • Coach consultants and managers on structured new business techniques, including targeted calling, effective questioning, value-led messaging, pipeline management and follow-up discipline.
  • Create and maintain supporting materials such as call guides, role-play exercises, coaching packs, sales playbooks and best-practice examples.

Performance, KPI and Productivity Monitoring:

  • Monitor and report on sales activity and productivity KPIs, including new business calls, CVs sent, interviews arranged, offers, placements and call time.
  • Use KPI data to identify training gaps, performance trends and coaching priorities at individual, team and business level.
  • Work with managers to agree targeted development actions where performance is below expectation and recognise examples of strong sales practice that can be shared more widely.
  • Support consistent use of VHR’s Bullhorn CRM database and reporting systems so that activity, pipeline and outcome data is accurate, meaningful and used to improve sales performance.

Coaching, Appraisals and Feedback:

  • Support sales leaders and managers in using regular feedback, one-to-ones and appraisal conversations to reinforce sales behaviours, KPI accountability and individual development plans.
  • Provide coaching and follow-up support to help embed learning into day-to-day sales activity and improve measurable outcomes.

The Individual:

  • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset, with the credibility to challenge performance constructively and support improvement.
  • Empathetic and approachable, with strong listening skills and the ability to adapt coaching style to different individuals.
  • Organisational and time management skills to handle multiple training, coaching and reporting priorities effectively.
  • Desirable to have experience of CRM, ATS or recruitment reporting systems, and of using performance data to support sales improvement.
