Job Purpose: We predominately build in and around the Home Counties and South East of England with an aim to create homes with the customer at the heart of everything we do. To play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the site at Cranleigh by ensuring controlled and secure access, effective coordination of deliveries, and the safe handling and storage of materials. The role supports the Site Manager(s) in maintaining site safety, organisation, and efficiency by acting as the first point of contact for all visitors and deliveries, while also managing site stores and assisting with general labouring duties. The Gate Person / Store Person helps ensure that materials and equipment are available when needed, site records are accurately maintained, and the overall site environment remains safe, tidy, and compliant with health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Control all access to and from the site, checking identification and authorisation of personnel and visitors.
- Log deliveries and direct vehicles safely on and off site.
- Ensure all visitors sign in and follow site procedures, including inductions where required.
- Maintain accurate records of site attendance and deliveries.
- Receive, check, and store deliveries in an organised and safe manner.
- Keep storage areas tidy and ensure materials are readily accessible for site teams.
- Issue materials, tools, and equipment as required, keeping basic records.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or damages to the Site Manager.
- Carry out ad hoc labouring duties, site cleaning, moving materials, and assisting trades.
- Assist with traffic marshalling when required.
- Maintain site security and report any concerns.
- Always comply with all health and safety regulations.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a similar construction site role (preferred)
- Valid CSCS card (essential)
- Traffic Marshal/Banksman qualification (desirable)
- Experience handling site materials or storekeeping (advantageous)
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Reliable, proactive, and safety-conscious
- Ability to work outdoors and carry out manual handling tasks
