VGC is pleased to be supporting a global engineering organisation delivering world-class solutions across the Construction, Energy, Transportation and Aviation sectors. Our client is currently seeking an experienced EHV Substation Senior Project Manager to join their Transmission & Distribution team. This role will involve the end-to-end delivery of large-scale HV and EHV substation and grid connection projects, ranging from 33kV to 400kV, covering both pre-construction and construction phases. You will manage projects from initial feasibility and design through to construction, testing, commissioning and energisation, for both new build substations and upgrades to existing assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of initial functional and technical requirements for EHV cable and substation projects (33kV–132kV), ensuring compliant and cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Manage the full project lifecycle, ensuring delivery to programme, budget, safety and quality targets.
- Act as the primary client interface, coordinating internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Undertake the role of CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer, ensuring full compliance with CDM regulations.
- Liaise closely with engineering, commercial and construction teams to support effective project execution.
- Manage external contractors and service providers, including commercial and contractual oversight.
- Undertake regular site visits to review progress, conduct safety audits, resolve engineering issues and support construction and commissioning activities.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Proven experience managing medium to large-scale EHV cable or substation projects (33kV–132kV) across the full project lifecycle.
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution and transmission assets, including switchgear, power transformers and overhead lines.
- Sound knowledge of relevant engineering standards and specifications.
- Excellent understanding of Health & Safety and CDM regulations, with the ability to act as Designer and Principal Designer.
- Willingness to travel to client sites and offices across the North East and Yorkshire regions.
Package & Location
The role offers a salary of up to £90,000, plus car allowance and a comprehensive benefits package. The position can be based in Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester, or within commuting distance of these locations.
