Our client is seeking a forward-thinking Lead Project Engineer to join their Rail Infrastructure team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about driving innovation and delivering high-quality engineering solutions in the rail sector. You will take ownership of engineering delivery for defined work packages across one or more projects, ensuring requirements, standards, safety obligations, and client expectations are fully met throughout the project lifecycle.

You will often act as the Project Engineering Manager (PEM) on medium-scale projects or lead engineering packages on larger programmes, coordinating multi-disciplinary inputs, managing technical risk, and ensuring robust integration, testing, and assurance. This role is pivotal in the successful delivery of Communications & Information Systems (CIS) solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead engineering delivery of work packages or act as PEM on medium projects, ensuring scope, schedule, quality, cost, and safety objectives are achieved.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute the Project Engineering Management Plan (PEMP), tailoring governance to project complexity.
  • Manage engineering lifecycle activities: requirements capture, system design, integration, testing, verification & validation, and commissioning readiness.
  • Ensure all engineering work complies with relevant standards, processes, technical specifications, and safety obligations.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces across disciplines, suppliers, and subcontractors, ensuring seamless integration.
  • Serve as the engineering representative to project managers, clients, suppliers, and internal teams, ensuring clear communication of requirements, changes, and engineering status.
Requirements:
  • Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Systems, or related Engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience delivering SCADA, SISS, Control Systems, or large-scale integration projects.
  • Strong capability across the full engineering lifecycle: requirements, design, integration, testing, V&V, and commissioning.
  • Experience acting as Work Package Manager, technical lead, or PEM on scoped project elements.
  • Strong understanding of rail infrastructure environments, construction/installation constraints, and operational railway practices.
  • Experience in multi-discipline environments such as SCADA, SISS, control systems, telecoms, M&E, or line-wide system integration (desirable).
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary and bonus structure.
  • Holiday allowance and pension contributions.
  • Flexible benefits package tailored to individual needs.

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce and welcome applications from all backgrounds. Reasonable adjustments can be made during the recruitment process for candidates with disabilities.
