The Role

We are recruiting Geotechnical Logging Engineers to support a ground investigation programme on the Sizewell C new build project. Working with a specialist ground investigation contractor, you will undertake site-based logging, sample photography and sub-sampling to support borehole drilling and ground investigation activities.

This opportunity would suit engineers with approximately three or more years of relevant experience who can produce accurate records, maintain sample traceability and work effectively within a busy site environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake detailed logging of soil and rock samples in accordance with relevant British Standards and project requirements.
  • Photograph samples and maintain clear, accurate photographic records.
  • Collect, label and prepare sub-samples for the required testing.
  • Ensure samples are correctly identified, handled and stored, maintaining traceability throughout the process.
  • Produce and maintain accurate borehole logs, sample records and associated site documentation.
  • Liaise with drilling teams, site supervisors and other engineers to coordinate logging and sampling activities.
  • Report unexpected ground conditions, sample discrepancies or quality concerns to the site management team.
  • Follow site health, safety, environmental and quality procedures.

Experience and Requirements

  • Typically, three or more years’ relevant experience in geotechnical logging or ground investigation.
  • Practical experience logging soil and rock samples to British Standards.
  • Experience with sample photography, sub-sampling and accurate record keeping.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • A valid CSCS card and relevant site safety training.
  • A driving licence and access to transport are strongly recommended due to the nature of the site.
  • First Aid, Manual Handling and Asbestos Awareness training would be advantageous.

Security Requirements

All successful applicants must pass the project’s BPSS security checks before commencing work. Candidates must be able to provide the requested supporting documentation, including evidence of their employment history for the previous three years.
