An opportunity for an Estimator to support bid and tender activities through the preparation of detailed and competitive pricing. The role involves close collaboration with bid, planning, procurement, and operational teams to develop accurate cost estimates and support successful project delivery from tender through to handover.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for tenders and budget pricing
- Work closely with Bid Managers to develop competitive and compliant pricing strategies
- Review tender documentation and advise on cost-effective methodologies and design options
- Carry out quantity take-offs and validate client bills of quantities
- Build up rates for labour, plant, and materials, ensuring compliance with relevant agreements and standards
- Liaise with procurement to obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Develop comparisons and recommendations for supply chain selection
- Price temporary works, preliminaries, staffing, and project-specific requirements
- Contribute to risk and opportunity assessments within tender submissions
- Present pricing at internal settlement meetings and support final tender submissions
- Assist with post-tender clarifications and negotiations
- Support handover of successful bids to delivery teams
- Review unsuccessful tenders to identify improvements for future submissions
Qualifications
- Strong experience in estimating within construction or civil engineering
- Sound knowledge of construction methodologies and techniques
- Understanding of procurement processes and supply chain engagement
- Commercial awareness across different contract forms (e.g. NEC, JCT)
- Experience using estimating software and cost planning tools
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams
- High levels of integrity and accountability
