About the Role
We’re looking for a Compliance Monitoring Manager to run and deliver VFX’s Compliance Monitoring Programme (CMP), providing independent assurance that regulatory requirements, internal policies, and controls are operating effectively across the business. Your role will focus on planning, executing, documenting, and tracking monitoring activity, ensuring reviews are completed to a high standard and issues are followed through to remediation. This role is well suited to someone who is process-oriented, highly structured, and detail-focused, and who enjoys applying regulatory requirements in a practical, proportionate way. We’re open to candidates with second line experience, as well as first line compliance professionals looking to step into a monitoring and assurance role. You’ll work closely with the MLRO and wider Compliance team, as well as stakeholders across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance Monitoring Delivery: Deliver monitoring reviews in line with the established Compliance Monitoring Programme and annual monitoring plan. Execute control-based and thematic reviews across key risk areas, including AML/CTF, sanctions, payments, FX, and operational compliance. Assess whether policies, procedures, and controls are designed and operating effectively against regulatory expectations. Apply structured, evidence-based testing and maintain clear audit trails for all reviews.
- Issue Management & Follow-Up: Clearly document findings, root causes, and recommendations arising from monitoring activity. Track actions and remediation plans to completion, working constructively with first-line teams. Escalate overdue, recurring, or higher-risk issues to Compliance leadership where appropriate. Support the embedding of sustainable control improvements rather than one-off fixes.
- Reporting & MI: Produce clear, concise monitoring reports with practical, proportionate recommendations. Contribute to regular MI and summary reporting for Compliance leadership and governance forums. Ensure monitoring outputs are consistent, well-structured, and easy for stakeholders to understand.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with first-line teams across Operations, Payments, Product, and Technology during reviews. Provide clear guidance on control expectations and good practice. Build constructive working relationships that balance challenge with support.
- Programme & Process Improvement: Support continuous improvement of monitoring processes, templates, and ways of working. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and clarity in monitoring delivery. Stay up to date with relevant regulatory developments and feed changes into monitoring activity as required.
Candidate Profile
- Strong attention to detail with a structured, methodical approach to work.
- Comfortable following defined processes while applying judgement where needed.
- Able to clearly document findings and explain issues in a concise, practical way.
- Confident managing multiple reviews and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative, pragmatic, and solutions-focused.
Preferred Background
- 2–4 years’ experience in Compliance, Compliance Monitoring, Risk, or Internal Audit within financial services.
- Experience in payments, FX, e-money, fintech, or another fast-moving, regulated environment.
- Strong first-line compliance experience with exposure to controls, QA, reviews, or assurance welcomed.
- Understanding of UK regulatory frameworks (e.g. FCA Handbook, MLRs 2017, JMLSG, sanctions regimes).
- Familiarity with risk-based monitoring or assurance methodologies is a plus, but not essential.
