A bit about the role

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager to become a part of our team, based in our London office; working on and supporting project delivery across a variety of infrastructure sectors. The successful candidate will be interested in working in the Rail sector to deliver post contract management services in a Delivery/Design & Build Rail environment. Client-side experience would be advantageous; however a track record of delivery experience in Rail or in combination with relevant Highways or Major Civils, as Contractor or Consultant, is essential.

The role will involve supporting the NEC Project Management Team by undertaking Contract Administration and Rail Project Management duties, so a developing skillset and experience in client-facing and contractor communication are essential. The successful applicant will become part of a client-side team, supporting the delivery of their projects.

Your skills and experience

  • Client-Side Project Management experience on major projects in the infrastructure sector, ideally Rail or alternatively relevant Highways or Major Civils experience
  • An understanding of Network Rail Management and Assurance Procedures including delivering works as a 3rd Party, managing budgets, change and technical / engineering coordination
  • Experience in managing or supporting post-tender activities including variations, Compensation Events (NEC), and final accounts (depending on scale of contract)
  • Experience in producing or supporting the production of Client Reports, on site coordination issues and managing the Contractor and client interfaces with Network Rail
  • Experience in managing or supporting the management of Contractor and consultant contracts and relationships on behalf of clients
  • Experience of site working and safety processes including contractor meetings, CDM, Health & Safety, CSM & RIR Processes
  • An understanding of managing internal compliance processes for Health & Safety, company policies, and contractual obligations
  • Experience of supporting senior colleagues in maintaining strong client, contractor and collaborator relationships and supporting business development through exhibiting client focused positive behaviours

What will you have?

  • Proven Rail Project Management experience and certification, with or working towards chartership via APM (or similar)
  • Ability to provide technical rail project delivery advice and guidance to non-technical clients
  • Experience in administration of JCT and NEC construction contracts
  • Experience of managing, or supporting the management of, contracts in an onsite Main Works Contractor environment
  • Commercially aware with excellent reporting and communication skills
  • Degree qualified in technical / engineering related degree

The successful candidate will be expected to work on site c50% of the time in the St Albans Area for first 2 years of their employment, with opportunities for growth to support other projects regionally and nationally.

Preferably, but not essential:

  • Experience in delivering third party projects on Network Rail Infrastructure
  • Familiarity and experience of the NR Asset Protection Process
  • Technical, Design or engineering background
  • End to end rail project lifecycle experience
  • Chartership with relevant PM (APM, RICS etc) or Technical body (ICE etc)
