Position Overview
The VEV Site Manager will be the on-site lead, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient delivery of civil, electrical and charger installation works. You will run day-to-day site operations under VEV's role as Principal Contractor (and interfacing with Principal Designer), coordinate subcontractors and direct labour, uphold CDM 2015 duties at site level, and keep the programme, quality and cost on track. This is a hands-on role; we value candidates with valid plant/machinery tickets and either a groundworks or electrical background who can step in where needed while primarily leading the site.
Role & Responsibilities
- H&S and CDM on site: Deliver inductions, briefings and toolbox talks; enforce RAMS/permits; maintain the construction phase plan on site; uphold traffic, lifting, WAH, hot works, LOTO and temporary works controls; stop work when unsafe.
- Programme & coordination: Sequence works, chair daily coordination meetings, manage look-ahead, and coordinate civils, electrical, OEMs and utilities to hit milestones.
- Quality control: Implement ITPs, check forms and test records; capture as-builts/redlines; raise and close NCRs; support FAT/SAT commissioning.
- Subcontractor management: Verify competencies (CSCS/ECS, CPCS/NPORS, SSSTS/SMSTS), review RAMS and lift plans, manage permits, and track productivity.
- Temporary works & lifting: Coordinate with the TWC/TWS; assure temporary works compliance; plan lifts with the appointed person; control LOLER/PUWER.
- Electrical works interface: Enforce LOTO, isolation/energisation permits, and test/commissioning controls; coordinate LV/HV/AP-CP activities with the delivery team.
- Client & stakeholder liaison: Lead site walks, progress updates, and issue/risk management; coordinate with landlords, DNO/iDNO and local authorities.
- Records & reporting: Keep site diary, H&S/quality logs, photos, deliveries and progress data; provide daily/weekly reports to the PM and SHEQ Manager.
- Hands on support: Competently operate plant within ticket scope for short-duration tasks (e.g. telehandler/material moves) and support ground works/electrical tasks as needed.
Experience & Qualifications Required
- 5+ years site supervision/management in civils/electrical/utilities or similar, ideally EV/solar/depot or power upgrades.
- Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015, site RAMS/permits, temporary works and commissioning processes.
- SMSTS (preferred) or SSSTS; valid CSCS/ECS.
- One or more current CPCS/NPORS tickets (e.g. Telehandler, 360 Excavator, Forward Tipping Dumper) and Banksman/Traffic Marshal.
- First Aid at Work; CAT & Genny and Asbestos awareness.
- Full UK driving licence; able to travel nationwide.
- Groundworks background (drainage, ducting, bases, backfilling, reinstatement) and/or electrical background (LV install/testing; HV awareness) – Desirable.
- Temporary works supervisor (CITB), Slinger/Signaller, IPAF/PASMA.
- EUSR SHEA Power, NRSWA (for street works environments) – Desirable.
- 18th Edition (BS 7671)/2391 test & inspect (advantageous for electrically biased candidates) – Desirable.
