The Design Engineer will be responsible for designing efficient, scalable, and user-friendly EV charging projects while ensuring compliance with industry standards and sustainability goals.The EV Design Engineer will be responsible for the following key areas:
- Design EV charging station layouts, including site selection, space optimization, and integration with existing infrastructure.
- Design and specify electrical systems for EV infrastructure, including power distribution, transformers, and cabling.
- Conduct site surveys to assess suitability for EV infrastructure development.
- Ensure designs meet industry standards, safety regulations, and accessibility requirements.
- Oversee testing, commissioning, and performance evaluation of installed infrastructure.
- Lead the design and analysis of earthing systems, utilising various software tools to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
- Ensure the timely completion of design packages, meeting time, cost, safety, and environmental standards in line with client and industry specifications.
- Collaborate with external engineering consultants, delegating work packages to complement in-house efforts.
- Liaise with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to ensure design compliance with all relevant standards.
- Manage the technical aspects of a team of engineers, ensuring all engineering deliverables are provided on time during both the acquisition and execution stages of projects.
- Take responsibility for the quality and technical delivery of design solutions, ensuring they align with whole-life cost principles.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in EV infrastructure design or electrical engineering
- In-depth knowledge of HV and LV design solution development and practical implementation.
- Experience with earthing system analysis.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit) and electrical design tools.
- Familiarity with charging standards like CCS, CHAdeMO, and IEC 61851.
- Strong project management and leadership capabilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A valid full driving licence is required.
