Veterinary Surgeon

West Midlands

Permanent | Full-time or part-time considered

Up to £65,000 depending on experience

Clinical freedom, a varied small animal caseload and time to enjoy life outside practice: this role offers the opportunity to develop your clinical interests without an out-of-hours commitment. You’ll work 40 hours across four days, with one in three Saturday mornings and time off in lieu. Part-time applications are also welcome.

An established first‑opinion practice in the West Midlands is seeking a confident Veterinary Surgeon to join two experienced vets and a long‑standing support team. You’ll have the autonomy to manage your own cases, with colleagues available to discuss treatment options, share knowledge and support your development.

The role

You’ll see a varied caseload, building relationships with clients and working cases up thoroughly. With a good range of work retained in‑house, there is scope to use and extend your clinical skills while maintaining continuity of care for your patients.

Facilities include dental X‑ray, digital radiography, an in‑house laboratory and ultrasound with Doppler and a cardiac probe. Planned refurbishment works will further enhance the practice environment and facilities for colleagues and clients.

Alongside consultations, investigations and treatment, you’ll contribute to clinical discussions, share best practice and help maintain high standards of patient care. Clinical freedom is supported by access to specialist case advice, mentoring and a wider clinical support network.

About you

You’ll be comfortable managing a varied first‑opinion caseload and working up cases independently, while recognising the value of collaboration and a second opinion. Clear communication, thoughtful clinical decision‑making and a commitment to excellent patient and client care will be central to your approach.

This role would suit a vet who wants to build confidence, develop a clinical interest or take the next step in their career. You’ll bring a positive, collaborative approach and a genuine commitment to continued professional development.

Development and benefits

The salary is up to £65,000 depending on experience, with RCVS and VDS fees paid in full. Professional development support includes a generous CPD allowance, access to more than 450 courses and a veterinary reference library, plus fully funded postgraduate qualifications, including CertAVP and PgCert, with tuition, examination fees and study leave covered.

You’ll also have access to telemedicine specialists, an advanced clinical support network and regional clinical leads for case guidance and mentoring.

The wider package includes up to 33 days’ holiday, with the option to buy or sell leave; a health cash plan; an Employee Assistance Programme; wellbeing champions; and enhanced family leave policies. Staff pet‑care benefits include 50% off services, alongside discounts on food and medications. A relocation package and visa fees are covered where applicable.

Location and working pattern

The practice has on‑site parking and good road links, making it accessible from Walsall, Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield, Cannock, Brownhills, Great Barr and surrounding areas.

This is a permanent position, working 40 hours over four days, with one in three Saturday mornings, time off in lieu and no out‑of‑hours duties. Part‑time hours will be considered.
