Veterinary Nurse - Put your skills to full use! in Brighton

Brighton Full-Time On-site
V

Put your nursing skills to full use in an independent small animal practice where RVNs take an active role in patient care.

With a varied first‑opinion caseload, expanding surgical services and funded professional development, this role offers scope to build your confidence, deepen your interests and enjoy life outside work.

We are recruiting on behalf of a practice offering a choice of 40 or 42 hours across four days, with no overnight on‑call, no Sundays and no routine out‑of‑hours work. Applications are welcome from experienced RVNs and enthusiastic newly qualified nurses.

A genuinely varied nursing role

Your work will span theatre nursing, inpatient and ward care, nurse consultations, laboratory work and client education. Whether you are supporting a patient through surgery, monitoring their recovery or helping an owner understand ongoing care, your clinical skills and communication will make a practical difference.

The role is predominantly based at their main practice, with occasional days at a second branch to cover holidays or sickness. You will join five experienced vets, 10 Registered Veterinary Nurses and reception and administration colleagues in a practice that values kindness, collaboration and mutual respect.

For nurses who particularly enjoy theatre work, the expanding surgical caseload includes TPLO and BOAS procedures. This brings opportunities to develop alongside experienced colleagues while retaining the variety of an all‑round nursing position.

Facilities that support your work

The practice has invested in two theatres, separate cat and dog wards, a modern laboratory and a staff room. Equipment includes digital and dental radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy and therapeutic laser technology. Space has also been created for a possible future CT scanner, although this remains an aspiration rather than an existing service.

The organisation’s continued investment extends to its people. CPD is actively encouraged, certificates are fully supported and funded, and nurses are encouraged to contribute ideas that improve patient care. Whether you are finding your feet after qualifying or developing an established clinical interest, there is support to keep learning.

What you will bring

You will be a Registered Veterinary Nurse who enjoys teamwork, variety and involvement across first‑opinion practice. Experience is preferred, but newly qualified RVNs with enthusiasm to learn are equally welcome. A thoughtful approach to patient care, clear communication with clients and a willingness to support colleagues will serve you well.

Pay, rota and benefits

The salary starts at £30,900 for a 40‑hour week or £32,400 for a 42‑hour week, with either option worked over four days. Saturday mornings are on a one‑in‑four rota, from 8.30am to midday, and paid separately at £74.26 per shift. Out‑of‑hours care is handled by an external provider.

The package includes four weeks’ annual leave plus bank holidays, your birthday off, paid professional fees and generous CPD provision, including fully funded and supported certificates.

Outside the consulting room

Colleagues also enjoy spending time together away from work, from countryside dog walks and cinema trips to meals out and annual Christmas celebrations.

This location offers access to Sussex countryside, including Ashdown Forest and the South Downs. Brighton, Lewes, Eastbourne and Gatwick Airport are around 45 minutes away, with London just over an hour away.

You must be a qualified Veterinary Nurse and eligible to register with the RCVS to be considered for this role.
