This independent small animal hospital in Hertfordshire is seeking a passionate vet to join its esteemed team. The practice has a history spanning over 120 years and is RCVS-accredited since 1985, with ongoing investment in state-of-the-art equipment and training.
You’ll be part of a friendly, close-knit team of 16 experienced vets, with opportunities to manage a diverse array of cases in-house, from soft tissue surgeries to orthopaedics. The team’s varied interests and specialisations—from internal medicine and cardiac ultrasound to emergency and critical care—provide a rich learning environment. An extensive refurbishment is planned, marking an exciting phase of growth and innovation.
This role is ideal for a vet with a few years of experience who is ready to take the next step, with options to explore new areas, pursue certificates, and receive hands-on support and funding.
Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse array of in-house cases, including soft tissue surgeries and orthopaedics.
- Collaborate with a supportive team, discuss tricky cases, scrub in on new procedures, and mentor new graduates.
- Participate in regular in-house CPD sessions and engage with the clinical WhatsApp group to share knowledge.
- Be paired with a buddy vet during induction to ease transition and integration.
Qualifications and profile
- Several years of veterinary experience preferred.
- Interest in ophthalmology is a bonus but not essential.
- Ability to work within a collaborative, knowledge‑sharing environment.
Work pattern and benefits
- 4-day week with an early finish once a week; seven weeks out of nine finish at 1 pm, and the remaining two weeks finish at 5 pm. Rota is flexible, with part-time options available.
- Weekends are split to ensure no one works a full weekend on call.
- On-call procedures receive bonus pay; RVN on-site 24/7 for inpatient care.
- Fully supported and funded CPD, including certificates; sabbaticals available.
- Bring your dog to work; company pension.
