Our Barton‑Le‑Clay clinic has been providing local emergency care since 2010 and holds the RCVS Small Animal Emergency Service Clinic accreditation, reflecting the practice’s work treating emergency and critical care cases without appointment.

Understanding your key role

You will be leader of a large team of veterinary nurses and clinical support staff in an already well‑established clinic. While on clinical shifts you will maintain a high standard of patient care while developing and coaching your team.

Duties

  • Ensure day‑to‑day operational and financial management of the clinic is maintained.
  • Manage rota and cover gaps.
  • Maintain strong relationships with host practices through regular communications.
  • Oversee quality control of clinical equipment.
  • Manage team and welfare, including mentoring, supporting staff, conducting appraisals, reviewing performance, and managing return‑to‑work tasks.

Key requirements

  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in an out‑of‑hours and critical care environment.
  • Proven experience of managing others, preferably in a veterinary setting.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing performance.
  • Motivation to maintain high clinic standards.
  • Passion for caring for clients and their pets.

Working pattern

A full‑time role (40 hours per week) includes clinical shifts on weeknights, 1:2 weekends, and bank holidays, along with dedicated time for management duties and meetings.

Rota pattern:

  • Week 1: Wednesday and Thursday 19:00–09:00
  • Week 2: Monday and Tuesday 19:00–09:00, Saturday 12:00–19:30, Sunday 08:30–19:30
  • Week 3: Thursday and Friday 19:00–09:00
  • Week 4: Saturday and Sunday 19:00–09:00
