Are you passionate about helping families thrive? Our client is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Social Worker to join a specialist Parenting Assessment unit located in the Greater Merseyside area. This organisation is committed to ensuring every child has a safe, nurturing home environment. The role involves working within a residential programme designed to support and evaluate parents' ability to provide high-quality care over a 12-14 week period. This is an excellent opportunity for a Social Worker with a strong desire to make a meaningful difference in family lives. The position offers flexibility, including full-time, part-time, or fixed-term contracts, and provides a chance to work at the forefront of family transformation projects. The successful candidate will manage a caseload of up to five families, delivering expert assessments, reporting, and safeguarding within a supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-standard parenting assessments, including specialist MALD assessments (training provided), and prepare court-ready reports such as Position Statements and weekly updates.
  • Oversee quality assurance of weekly reports and case notes, providing clear guidance to Family Support Workers.
  • Engage creatively with families, adapting to different learning styles and helping parents understand their child's developmental milestones.
  • Balance safeguarding responsibilities with promoting parental independence, ensuring the safety and well-being of children.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies and coordinate with independent social workers as needed.
  • Participate in a shift rota to provide on-call support to the team.

Essential Criteria

  • A recognised Degree in Social Work (or equivalent) and current registration with Social Work England.
  • Minimum of 1 year's relevant social work experience, preferably within family support or assessment services.
  • Demonstrates strong critical reflection skills, effective written communication, and competence in working with complex, high-risk cases.
  • Knowledge of NICE guidelines, child developmental stages, and GDPR regulation.
  • Committed to anti-discriminatory practice and able to work effectively with families from diverse backgrounds.

Desirable Criteria

  • A valid driving licence with appropriate insurance.
  • Experience with Quality Assurance systems or performance management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.
