We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Residential Support Worker to join a leading specialist provider in Reading, United Kingdom. The Senior Residential Support Worker will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care within a children’s home environment. The Senior Residential Support Worker in Reading will be responsible for maintaining a therapeutic environment, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring compliance with safeguarding standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead shift operations, ensuring all daily tasks are completed to a high standard and supporting staff members.
  • Assist in the induction and ongoing development of support staff through mentoring and peer support.
  • Develop, review, and update individual care plans and risk assessments for young people.
  • Model and support the implementation of behavioural management techniques and emotional response plans.
  • Oversee medication administration, health appointments, and maintain accurate records.
  • Support the Registered Manager in meeting Ofsted standards through audits, safety checks, and compliance activities.
  • Manage complex Key Worker caseloads, acting as the primary advocate for young people and liaising with external professionals and families.
  • Lead safeguarding efforts by identifying concerns, supporting disclosures, and representing the home at strategy meetings and child protection conferences.

Requirements

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) is essential.
  • Proven experience working with children and young people in a residential setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience acting as a shift lead or team leader.
  • Full, clean UK Driving Licence.
  • Strong understanding of Children’s Home Regulations (2015) and Quality Standards.
  • Excellent report writing, audit, and compliance skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain high standards of safeguarding and care.

Desirable

  • Level 4 or 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management or Children, Young People and Families Practitioner.
  • Experience in therapeutic crisis intervention or trauma-informed approaches.
  • Additional qualifications in mental health or behavioural management.
