Our client, a leading specialist provider, is seeking a dedicated Domestic Abuse Housing Support Worker to join their team in Newport. The Domestic Abuse Housing Support Worker in Newport will provide vital advice, safety planning, and support to help clients remain safely in their homes or access appropriate refuge and temporary accommodation. Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the Newport housing team to identify and support individuals at risk of homelessness due to domestic abuse.
  • Provide initial advice, information, and assistance to clients accessing homelessness services.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans in line with organisational policies.
  • Offer immediate safety advice and work with multi‑agency partners to meet urgent needs.
  • Support clients in making informed decisions about their housing and safety options.
  • Liaise with landlords to implement safety measures that enable clients to remain in their homes where safe.
  • Coordinate with refuge providers to secure crisis accommodation for women and children fleeing abuse.
  • Maintain high‑quality outreach services that reflect organisational principles and meet funder requirements.
  • Make referrals for long‑term support through appropriate pathways.
  • Record detailed case notes and ensure all client files are up‑to‑date and compliant with policies.
  • Provide guidance and updates to homelessness staff on immediate safety and support strategies.
  • Assess home security needs and liaise with housing providers, police, and legal services.
  • Monitor and evaluate case progress in accordance with organisational policies.
  • Utilise electronic systems such as Pan Connect and CIVICA for case management and reporting.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training to develop skills and knowledge.
  • Support the on‑call rota within domestic abuse services as required.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years’ experience working with individuals affected by domestic abuse.
  • Knowledge of housing‑related services and wider VAWDASV risks.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi‑agency environment while maintaining organisational ethos.
  • Strong risk assessment and safety planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience using database systems for case recording.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Understanding of trauma and working within a psychologically informed environment.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and safeguarding principles.
  • Personal commitment to empowering families and maintaining professional boundaries.

Desirable

  • IDVA qualification or recognised equivalent.
  • Ability to speak Welsh.
