Job Title: Attendance Support Officer

Location: Newport, South East Wales

Salary: £120 per day minimum

Employment Type: Full-time - Monday to Friday - 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Attendance Support Officer to join a reputable school in Newport. This role involves maintaining accurate attendance records, supporting systems development, and fostering positive relationships with staff, parents, and external agencies to promote student attendance and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keeping and updating attendance records using ICT packages such as SIMS, Word, and Excel.
  • Assisting in the development, implementation, and monitoring of attendance systems.
  • Establishing constructive relationships with staff, parents/carers, and external professionals to support student attendance.
  • Providing clerical and administrative support, including dealing with correspondence, analysing attendance data, and preparing reports.
  • Sending letters regarding Fixed Penalty Notices and making relevant phone calls.
  • Ensuring compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection policies.
  • Supporting the school’s ethos by promoting equality and inclusion for all students.
  • Collaborating with other agencies and professionals to support student attendance and development.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification such as NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Experience working in an educational or administrative setting, ideally supporting attendance or student welfare.
  • Mandatory compliance with an Enhanced DBS check and a full UK driving licence (if applicable).
  • Strong organisational skills and proficiency in ICT packages such as SIMS, Word, and Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
