Role Overview: Support Assistant – Temporary to Permanent (12 weeks temporary work which can lead to a permanent position after 12 weeks). The service provides more than just accommodation; it offers a safe, inclusive home and holistic support to help young people achieve their potential and transition into independent living and engagement in employment or education.
Location: Merthyr Tydfil
Salary: £13.68 per hour
Contract: Temporary to Permanent, Full Time, 2 × 24 hour shifts each week
Key Duties:
- Offer day‑to‑day emotional and practical support.
- Motivate and empower young people to gain independence.
- Provide support and advice in line with support plans and keyworker requests.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Relationship building – ability to engage and build strong relationships with young people.
- Understanding trauma – knowledge of the impacts of homelessness, domestic abuse and trauma.
- Crisis response – forward‑thinking attitude to crisis situations.
- Emotional resilience – remain calm and collected in challenging and traumatic situations.
- Empathetic, caring and resilient nature.
- At least 6 months experience working with children or in a similar social‑care setting.
- TMVA – Restraint Training Certificate.
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Current Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
- Right to work in the UK.
