Core Responsibilities and Leadership

  • You will be responsible for the safe and efficient management of the home, helping to shape the statement of purpose and advocating for residents
  • Leadership: Serve as a role model of excellence, providing effective staff coordination and managing the team of support workers. Take full responsibility for the home in the absence of the Registered Manager
  • Compliance: Assist in ensuring the service operates in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies, and quality standards. Maintain all regulatory documentation to a high standard
  • Service Development: Support a development plan that ensures clinically informed practice and high standards of individual care planning
  • Team Management: Lead recruitment, induction, mentoring, and supervision of employees. Organise duty rotas to ensure consistent coverage and meet the needs of young people
  • Operational Oversight: Supervise the assessment of needs and coordinate casework functions. Ensure all professional practice and medication processes comply with current legislation
  • Environment and Safety: Maintain a clean and safe living environment, ensuring prompt handling of maintenance and compliance with Health and Safety at Work legislation
  • Financial Management: Adhere to company financial procedures and operate effectively within a set budget
  • On Call: Participate in an on call system and remain flexible to meet the changing needs of the home

Essential Candidate Requirements

  • Qualifications: Must hold a Diploma Level 3 or 4 in Children and Young Peoples Workforce, or Diploma Level 3 in Health and Social Care for Children and Young People. A willingness to work towards a Diploma Level 5 in Leadership and Management is required
  • Experience: Significant experience working in a residential setting with young people who exhibit challenging behaviour. Proven experience in supervising or managing a staff team
  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of the care needs of looked after children, including knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations, Children Act, and Quality Standards
  • Leadership Skills: Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to manage time and IT effectively
  • Attributes: Emotionally resilient and mature, with the ability to motivate and enthuse a staff team

Desirable Knowledge and Experience

  • Education: Possession of a Diploma Level 5 in Management or NVQ Level 5
  • Regulatory: Experience with Ofsted inspections and lead professional meetings
  • Specialist Knowledge: Understanding of attachment and trauma in relation to young people
  • Administration: Familiarity with Human Resources practices and Health and Safety regulations
