Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Liverpool, Merseyside

Job Description

We are seeking a caring, patient, and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team in Liverpool.

This rewarding role involves providing individualised support to a Year 6 pupil with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school team to foster a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 support for a Year 6 pupil throughout the school day.
  • Building a positive, trusting, and consistent relationship with the pupil.
  • Supporting the pupil to manage emotions, regulate behaviour, and develop coping strategies.
  • Encouraging engagement in learning and helping the pupil access the curriculum.
  • Supporting positive behaviour and following individualised strategies and plans.
  • Helping the pupil develop social skills, confidence, and independence.
  • Collaborating with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to ensure consistent support.
  • Supporting the pupil during less structured times, such as breaks and lunchtimes.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A caring, calm, and patient attitude with high emotional resilience.
  • Experience of, or a strong interest in, supporting children with SEMH needs.
  • The ability to establish positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
  • An understanding of the importance of routine, consistency, and positive reinforcement.
  • The capacity to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • High expectations of children and a belief in their potential to succeed.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Enthusiasm, reliability, and a commitment to supporting children’s development.
