We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Residential Childcare Support Worker to join a supportive service for young people in Guildford. This full‑time, permanent position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young males aged 12‑18 who have experienced trauma. The Senior Residential Childcare Support Worker will play a vital role in providing high‑level, nurturing care within a rural, homely environment, supporting young people to develop insight and reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead role in ensuring the well‑being and developmental needs of each young person are met, enabling them to reach their full potential.
- Support and lead Residential Support Workers, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
- Stay informed of relevant legislation, including the Children’s Act and National Minimum Standards, to ensure the home meets all regulatory requirements and Ofsted guidance.
- Plan and prepare engaging activities that support learning, development, and social integration.
- Observe and assess young people’s progress, maintaining accurate records of achievements, behaviour, and key events.
- Produce and update Life Books for key working responsibilities.
- Collaborate effectively with Local Authorities and Placing Authorities to deliver outstanding care.
- Work with the management team to uphold the home’s therapeutic philosophy, including providing clear boundaries and positive reinforcement strategies.
- Assist with daily domestic tasks such as meal preparation, cleaning, and shopping, demonstrating flexibility within working practices.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with teenage boys or challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
- Relevant NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent, such as the Residential Childcare/Children and Young People’s Workforce Diploma), or willingness to work towards this qualification immediately.
- Full Driving Licence and access to a vehicle due to the rural location of the service.
- Ability to challenge unacceptable behaviour, set firm boundaries, and deliver individualized care.
- Flexibility to work a mixture of days, evenings, and weekends, with every other weekend off.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and listen.
- Strong teamwork skills and a flexible, proactive approach to daily tasks.
