Job Description

Are you a Welsh-speaking Teaching Assistant who enjoys supporting young people with Additional Learning Needs (ALN)? Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can help pupils build confidence, independence and essential learning skills?

Vetro Education is recruiting a Welsh-Speaking ALN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist learning provision within a Welsh-medium secondary school in the Cardiff area.

You’ll be working alongside an experienced and supportive team, providing one-to-one, small-group and classroom support to pupils who benefit from a more personalised approach to learning. The role also offers opportunities to get involved in educational visits, workshops and activities beyond the classroom.

What will you be doing?

  • Supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) within a specialist learning environment.
  • Working with pupils individually and in small groups to develop their basic literacy, numeracy and learning skills.
  • Adapting activities and resources to suit pupils working at different stages of the curriculum.
  • Encouraging pupils to become more independent and confident in their abilities.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils and helping them feel comfortable and supported in school.
  • Providing encouragement and reassurance to pupils who may become frustrated or find certain aspects of learning challenging.
  • Working closely with teachers and other support staff to help pupils make progress.
  • Supporting classroom activities and helping to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
  • Getting involved in workshops, educational visits and other activities that give pupils opportunities to learn outside the classroom.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for someone who is patient, enthusiastic and enjoys working with young people. You'll need to be approachable, adaptable and comfortable supporting pupils with a range of learning needs.

  • Welsh-speaking ability, as you'll be supporting pupils within a Welsh-medium secondary school.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally in a school, ALN or specialist education setting.
  • An understanding of the different challenges pupils with Additional Learning Needs may face.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
  • A calm, patient and encouraging approach, particularly when pupils need additional reassurance or support.
  • The ability to work well as part of a team and use your initiative when needed.
  • A genuine interest in helping pupils develop their confidence, independence and learning skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children and young people.

Experience supporting pupils with ALN would be beneficial, but we'd also be interested in hearing from candidates with relevant experience working with young people in other settings.
