Are you an experienced small animal vet currently looking through job adverts? You've probably noticed they all read the same right? Same caseloads, same kit, same selling points, same salary brackets — and let's face it, most of us in this industry are decent, caring people who are great to work with. So why consider us?

A Small Animal Role Within a Mixed Practice

This was an awesome point for me when I moved here five years ago, coming from a purely small background. I get to focus on the high-end small animal work I love, but at the same time I am surrounded by vets doing all sorts of cool things in all sorts of species, and I think that brings a real variety and spark to my working week. Not to mention some great transferrable skills and out-of-the-box thinking that emerge from the collaborations of a mixed team.

Camaraderie and Collaboration

We’re very proud of the culture we’ve built at Rosevean. We actively encourage a collaborative approach to case management, and we focus heavily on ensuring our hires are the right fit for the team, to keep that friendly, family feel the practice has a reputation for. Everyone is surprised at how integrated we are as a mixed practice; no departments, no hierarchies, no barriers, just a group of driven, caring individuals trying to do their best and making sure they have a good time as they go (sometimes too good!)

Room to Grow Your Niche

This is a new role, not a replacement. You'll be joining two experienced small animal vets, a couple of more recent graduates, and a great mixed team around you. Whether you want to develop a clinical niche or specialisation, focus on mentoring newer graduates, or simply do excellent work and then go hit the surf — we're here for all of it.

An Out of Hours Rota

I know what you're thinking — hear me out, this is another one we’re really proud of. We're one of the few practices still running our own OOH service, with dedicated night nurses on site and clients seeing the same familiar faces they know from the day. Nobody loves being on call, but the professional satisfaction of providing genuine 24/7 care — and keeping complex cases in house rather than shipping them off and back — is something the whole team values. It's also what lets us take on the more interesting, involved cases in the first place.

West Cornwall: A Place Worth Moving For

Rosevean is based in Penzance, on the doorstep of some of Britain's most spectacular countryside and coastline — surf beaches, coastal paths, a thriving arts and food scene. Life outside work here is exceptional.

What We're Looking For

Our ethos is straightforward: high-quality, evidence-based medicine, with a great emphasis on contextualised care. We're not interested in a one-size-fits-all approach — we want vets who can weigh the evidence, understand the individual animal and owner in front of them, and make sound clinical decisions accordingly. You'll be confident in your own clinical judgement, comfortable with a varied first-opinion caseload, and genuinely enjoy supporting less experienced colleagues. An interest in working towards a postgraduate qualification would be a bonus.

The Usual Stuff

  • Salary £45,000–£60,000 DOE
  • 4-day working week
  • 1-in-6 OOH rota
  • Flexible working considered
  • 6.6 weeks paid holiday
  • RCVS fees paid + two further professional subscriptions
  • VDS cover
  • Health Cash Plan offering a wide range of benefits for health and wellbeing treatments
  • Enhanced paternity, maternity, adoption, shared parental leave and surrogacy pay parental
  • CPD and postgraduate qualification support
  • Company sick pay
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Discounted veterinary fees
  • My Perks cashback scheme
  • Annual pay reviews and genuine career progression
