In the heart of North London next to the River Lea is our incredibly popular first opinion Tottenham practice, and they are looking for a veterinary surgeon to take the helm! We are looking for a like-minded colleague who will be committed to their team, clients and their beloved animals, and really make this role their own.
About your new role! Tottenham’s charm is aided by its incredible support team, including an amazing senior nurse who trained at Tottenham so knows the practice inside out, and established student and trainee nurses who are incredibly passionate in their training positions. This is a sole charge position that has a perfectly manageable caseload for a confident GP first opinion vet to step into. You will be able to comfortably balance your morning consultations, perform routine surgeries during the day, catch up on admin and then round up with evening consults.
This role involves a 4-day week, Monday to Thursday (with an early finish on the Thursday) plus a 1:4 branch Saturday morning and 1:8 Hospital Sunday rotation. You will be rota’d to up to 2 bank holidays per year in Wanstead Hospital and be included in the last resort on-call rotation… which is very rarely used as it is for emergencies only!
As a sole charge branch vet some of your duties will include:
- Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations which are based on best practice and are evidence-based and in accordance with GVG protocols.
- Perform surgery on cases as appropriate and within boundaries of personal competence and limitation of overnight care.
- Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with appropriate current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
- Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure that pets’ histories are accurate, comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
- Be prepared to refer cases in a timely manner, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital, when there is an inability to undertake a case for whatever reason.
- Help to maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.
- Work alongside your RVN to ensure branch meetings are scheduled and the clinics SOP’s are being actioned.
- Oversee the consulting and surgical/diagnostic diary in compliance with company policies.
You will be fully supported by our highly experienced regional manager and regional head vet, whose support is invaluable to the region both operationally and clinically. You will also be supported by our Wanstead 24-hour hospital to refer more complex cases, and their own rotating night team provides your patients with invaluable OOH care.
Caseload at Tottenham is high, with a bonded client base so we need either an experienced vet to take the reins of this popular North London branch, or a vet chomping at the bit for a new challenge! Leadership training will be provided if this is your first sole charge position.
The practice itself is perfectly situated if you want to travel into the hustle and bustle of central London, being just a 5-minute walk from Bruce Grove station that takes you straight into London Liverpool Street, or a 20-minute walk from Tottenham Hale station. If however you may want to get away from the city, Tottenham is within easy reach of Epping Forest, and popular Essex villages and towns with an array of pubs and restaurants.
Salary
The salary band for this sole charge role is £60,000 to £90,000 FTE depending on prior experience and allowing room for professional growth within the role.
Benefits
- 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays
- Generous relocation assistance (where applicable)
- Up to £2,000 CPD budget every year plus up to 5 days’ paid CPD leave
