One of our fabulous nurses will be starting their parenting adventure in the spring, creating an opportunity for an experienced hospital RVN with a keen interest in the theatre environment, to step into a 12-month maternity cover Senior Theatre Veterinary Nurse role. We could consider a RVN who has not been in a senior position before, but has a passion for the theatre environment and wants to develop their skills further, and is keen to step into a theatre lead role.

About your new role! This full-time (40 hours per week) senior RVN position would be ideal for an experienced RVN who thrives in the surgical setting, and wants to take the reins of our 4 theatres in the hospital, ensuring they are running efficiently and to the highest standard. This role can be either 4 or 5 days per week and includes a 1:6 weekend rotation with TOIL and 2 bank holidays per year. You will be included in the last resort on-call rotation, every 1:10 weeks.

As senior theatre RVN some of your duties will include:

  • GA sheet audits
  • Pre-GA check list audits
  • GA and theatre training
  • Keeping set up folders up to date
  • Ensuring surgical kits are maintained and training of equipment
  • Organising the theatre day
  • GA troubleshooting
  • Ordering medical air
  • Maintaining stock for surgery
  • Providing ventilator and Ethylene oxide training
  • Theatre SOP’s
  • Providing endoscope training
  • Scope maintenance
  • Providing in house CPD
  • Attending and contributing to leadership meetings
  • Assist in covering Charge Nurse when needed

Wanstead not only has its own first opinion client base but also sees the internal referral cases from the surrounding branches in East, North and Central London, giving you a plethora of diverse surgical cases. There is fantastic diagnostic support at Wanstead, with a CT scanner, a commercial laboratory, a strong medical team, and experienced surgeons routinely conducting advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive surgery on site. You will be working alongside a large team consisting of approximately 25 vets, 27 RVNs, 14 SVNs, 7 VCAs and a large front of house team who are integral in maintaining excellent client care.

Wanstead has an extensive onsite management structure including 2 deputy head nurses, head nurse, head vet and hospital manager, so you will have ample support around you while settling into your new position. Wanstead itself is on the outskirts of urban Essex but is close enough to rural life for that countryside relief. Transport links into London do not get better than a short walk to a Central Line tube station! Please be aware there is no on-site parking available and public transport is advised.

This could be a fantastic opportunity for an experienced RVN who knows their way around a theatre, and wants to gain leadership experience to then take-away and utilise for future senior positions.

  • Our senior RVN salary band is £35,000 to £39,000 depending on prior experience.
  • 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays
