Are you an experienced veterinary surgeon who enjoys managing hospitalised patients, complex medical cases and inpatient care, but still values variety in your week? At Valley Veterinary Hospital, we're looking for a confident and compassionate vet to join our growing hospital team. This is a role designed around inpatient and hospital-based care, with opportunities for surgery and first-opinion consulting, rather than a traditional GP role.

You'll spend the majority of your time caring for our hospitalised patients, managing medical workups, supporting emergency admissions, developing treatment plans and seeing cases through from admission to discharge. Alongside this, you'll have the opportunity to undertake surgery and maintain consulting skills without the pressure of being in consults all day, every day.

Why This Role Is Different

As a 24/7 veterinary hospital providing out-of-hours services for approximately 40 local practices, our caseload is both varied and genuinely interesting. On any given day you could be:

  • Managing complex medical inpatients
  • Working up challenging diagnostic cases
  • Supporting emergency admissions
  • Collaborating with our ECC team
  • Consulting on a small number of first-opinion cases
  • Mentoring and supporting less experienced colleagues

This role would suit a vet who enjoys thinking clinically, building case continuity and providing high-quality patient care throughout a hospital stay.

A Great Team

We know that managing complex cases is most rewarding when you have the right support around you. You will:

  • Never be sole charge
  • Work alongside experienced veterinary colleagues every day
  • Be supported by a large team of talented RVNs and ACAs
  • Have access to dedicated reception and client care teams
  • Be encouraged to discuss cases collaboratively
  • Enjoy genuine clinical freedom and autonomy

We're looking for a vet with solid clinical experience who is confident making decisions, managing cases independently and contributing positively to a supportive team culture.

Working Pattern

Up to 4 days per week (36 hours) 1 x 12-hour bank holiday shift per year Flexible working requests welcomed

A Hospital Built Around Clinical Excellence

We are committed to providing the facilities, equipment and support needed to deliver outstanding patient care. Our hospital includes:

  • CT scanner
  • Advanced ultrasonography
  • Dedicated ECC wards
  • Orthopaedic and soft tissue theatres
  • Dedicated exotic animal theatre
  • Endosurgery facilities
  • Extensive in-house laboratory including blood gas analysis and TEG
  • Rehabilitation service including physiotherapy and hydrotherapy

Whether your interests lie in medicine, ECC, surgery or diagnostics, you'll have the tools and support to pursue them.

Located just outside Cardiff, Valley Vets offers easy access to everything South Wales has to offer. Within a short commute you can enjoy:

  • Cardiff's vibrant restaurants, culture and sporting events
  • The stunning coastline of the Vale of Glamorgan
  • The Brecon Beacons National Park
  • World-class walking, cycling and mountain biking
  • Beautiful beaches, countryside and outdoor adventures

As part of the VetPartners family, you'll enjoy:

  • Salary up to £65,000 DOE
  • 6.6 weeks holiday including bank holidays
  • 5 days CPD and £1,750 CPD allowance
  • Certificate support
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • Two additional professional memberships paid
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity benefits
  • Health Shield healthcare scheme
  • Life assurance
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Optional private healthcare
