We have a fabulous opportunity for a compassionate, reliable and enthusiastic Late Kennel Animal Care Assistant to join our RCVS accredited Hospital in Hartford. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with animal handling experience who thrives in a hands-on role and enjoys being part of a busy, supportive veterinary environment. Whether you are helping care for hospitalised patients, maintaining high standards throughout the hospital, or supporting our veterinary team, you will play an important role in delivering exceptional patient care every day.

The Role

  • Average 26.32 hours per week
  • Rolling rota of 5 days on / 5 days off
  • Includes weekends and Bank Holidays
  • Shift hours: 12:00pm – 8:00pm
  • Possible requirement to assist with overnight shifts
  • Salary: £14,849 - £17,395 (26.32 hours per week) - dependent on age/ experience
  • Full-time equivalent salary £21,156.44 - £24,783.91 based on 37.5 hours per week

What You’ll Be Doing

Working under the supervision of our veterinary team, you will be responsible for supporting the care and wellbeing of our hospitalised patients. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing care to in-patients
  • General care, feeding, exercising, and administering oral medications
  • Ensuring high levels of cleanliness and hygiene in all areas of the practice
  • Animal handling: assist with blood pressure monitoring, tube feeding, blood samples etc.
  • Observation and monitoring of patients under direct supervision

About You

We’re looking for someone who is caring, proactive and enjoys working as part of a team.

  • Previous experience handling and caring for animals
  • Confidence working with both cats and dogs
  • Ideally GCSEs including Maths and English to a C or above grade
  • A flexible and positive approach to work
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A genuine passion for animal welfare
