The Vet Office is recruiting on behalf of a busy, well-equipped 24-hour small animal hospital in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, which supports a wide network of surrounding practices and offers a varied and clinically interesting caseload.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Night Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) to join a dedicated night team and play a key role in delivering outstanding emergency and inpatient care.

The Role

  • Night RVN – 24-hour hospital environment
  • Permanent, part-time position
  • Rota: 7 nights on / 14 nights off
  • Shifts: 8:00pm – 8:00am
  • Average working hours: 28 hours per week
  • Working closely with the night vet and support team
  • High level of hands-on nursing responsibility and clinical autonomy

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Triage and initial assessment of emergency cases
  • Assisting with examinations, stabilisation and procedures
  • Monitoring critical care patients using advanced diagnostic and monitoring equipment
  • Placement of IV lines, blood sampling and running in-house diagnostics
  • Administration of medication and management of fluid therapy
  • Inpatient care, including feeding, walking, toileting and post-operative monitoring
  • Accurate and detailed clinical note keeping
  • Preparing patients for procedures and managing admissions and discharges
  • Supporting patient transfers for enhanced or out-of-hours care where required

You will also contribute to the smooth overnight running of the hospital by maintaining a clean, organised and safe clinical environment and ensuring readiness for incoming emergencies.

Candidate Requirements

  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
  • Confident working in a hospital or emergency environment
  • Strong nursing skills with a passion for patient care
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team overnight
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Comfortable using coaching and influencing skills with colleagues
  • Interest in nurse-led clinics and efficient clinical workflows
