The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and efficacy of veterinary medicines in the UK. We have a vacancy for two Policy Officers in the Policy Development and Delivery Team. This exciting role puts you at the heart of the VMD’s work as the regulatory and policy lead for issues concerning the authorisation, use, and manufacture of veterinary medicines in the UK.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policy and legislation on veterinary medicines including medicated feeds, specified feed additives, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and residues. This includes work on fees and charges.
- Develop and enact legislation and secondary legislation, covering the full range of better regulation activities including post‑implementation review and post‑legislative scrutiny.
- Work in a project environment, manage multiple initiatives, and develop strong working relationships with stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience:
- End‑to‑end policy making experience.
- Experience in creating secondary legislation from beginning to end.
- Experience in post‑implementation review and post‑legislative scrutiny.
- Project management skills.
- Strong working relationships with others.
Preferred Attributes:
- Confident analysis, interpretation, and robust recommendation skills.
- Ability to manage varied workload in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced environment.
