Earlswood Veterinary Hospital in Belfast is delighted to offer an exceptional opportunity for a confident Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon with a strong interest in Internal Medicine to take the next step in their clinical career. This is a rare advanced practitioner development role, designed for an experienced GP vet who enjoys first opinion practice but is motivated to progress into referral level medicine.
Over a structured three year period, you will be fully supported to complete a Certificate in Small Animal Medicine (or further develop an existing qualification), with the clear intention of transitioning into a permanent Internal Medicine referral position within Earlswood. This is not an internship or residency, but a long term career pathway focused on mentorship, continuity and progression.
Initially, the role combines busy first opinion GP work with supervised referral exposure. Around two days per week will be spent managing a varied GP caseload, while the remaining time will be dedicated to working alongside our established Internal Medicine referral team, steadily building confidence, skills and autonomy.
The preferred working pattern is 35 hours across four days, promoting excellent work‑life balance and protected time for rest, study and professional development. Shifts run between 8:30am and 7:30pm, Monday to Friday. Weekend duties are light at one in four, and there are no out of hours or on call requirements, as all emergency care is managed on site by Vets Now.
Earlswood Veterinary Hospital is an RCVS accredited general and referral centre, equipped with advanced diagnostics including CT, endoscopy, laparoscopy and visiting MRI. You will join a supportive, collaborative team with extensive certificate led expertise, providing an outstanding environment to build a future in referral Internal Medicine while maintaining balance and stability in Belfast.
