Veterinary Surgeon in Bristol

Veterinary Surgeon in Bristol

Bristol Full-Time On-site
Vet Group

Following the success of Plymouth Woolwell Vets for Pets, practice owner Jo Manby has now taken on the ownership of Plymouth Vets for Pets on Exeter Street, along with her experienced Head Nurse Sam Job and with exciting plans to develop their new practice, they now have an unmissable opportunity for an experienced vet to join them at this exciting time.

About our owners

Having qualified from Bristol in 2010, Jo then opened Plymouth's sister practice in Woolwell in 2015, so as well as having an ESVPS General Practitioner Certificate in Small Animal Surgery, a Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice and all the theory completed towards an exotics certificate, Jo has unparalleled experience of running a successful practice and looking after a team that thrives under her guidance and support. With Sam's additional experience both in a Managerial role and as a Head Nurse and with their passion for teaching, by joining Plymouth Vets for Pets in this period of change we can guarantee both the opportunity to utilise all your veterinary and people skills whilst also ensuring you're able to develop and nurture news ones, surrounded by a supportive team.

The team

We're still growing but as well as experienced practice owners Jo and Sam who are onsite every day, you'll also be working alongside Lead Vet Kendall and an experienced team of nurses, and a dedicated non-clinical team. Sam encourages schedule 3 which not only gives real quality to the nurses role, but in turn also supports our vets in their daily routine too.

Our work environment

The practice is in a central location in Plymouth and as well as a designated colleague area, facilities at our purpose-built practice include 4 consult rooms, operating theatre, central preparation room, separate cat and dog wards and all the equipment you would expect from a leading GP practice. Jo and Sam also have plans to invest in new state of the art equipment starting with ultrasound and dental x-ray, as well working towards silver cat and rabbit accreditation so whatever your area of interest, they'd love to hear from you.

The role and you

As a small but growing team and seeing a varied caseload including cats, dogs, rabbits and small furries, we are looking for a forward-thinking vet with previous experience in a UK small animal GP practice.

Confident in all aspects of everyday small animal medicine and surgery, we're also looking for a team player with great communication skills and someone who shares our passion to develop the practice whilst continuing to provide the highest level of veterinary care. Ideally a full-time position, we can consider more flexible options too with the rota also including just 1 in 3 or 4 Saturdays from 9am-3pm. There will be no OOH.

The offer

  • Competitive salary up to 65,000 DOE
  • No OOH
  • Paid holiday of 28 days, rising to 33 days after 2 years of service
  • Extra day off for your birthday
  • Paid professional memberships including RCVS and BVA
  • Unlimited CPD considered, including funding towards certificates
  • Life assurance 4 x annual salary
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Relocation allowance (direct applicants only)
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Colleague reward hub - exclusive offers and discounts online and on the high street

Some tips for your application 🫡

Show Off Your Credentials:When applying for a physician role, make sure to highlight your medical qualifications and any special certifications you have. We want to see your medical degree, residency training, and any additional certifications that set you apart, like specialised training in paediatrics or geriatrics. Don’t leave out those all-important letters after your name!

Tailor Your CV to Medicine:Your CV should reflect your experience and skills as a doctor. Be specific about your clinical rotations, medical practice, and any research work you've done – we love seeing quantifiable impacts, so mention how you've improved patient care or led successful treatment plans.

Craft a Personal Statement with Heart:In your cover letter, let us know why you chose medicine and what drives your passion for patient care. Personal stories about transformative experiences—like a memorable patient encounter or a moment that defined your career path—can really make you shine. Remember, we're looking for someone who genuinely cares about their patients!

Demonstrate Continuous Learning:In the medical field, showcasing your commitment to continuous learning is essential. Mention any recent courses, workshops, or conferences you’ve attended, and highlight your willingness to stay updated on medical advancements. This shows us that you’re not just a physician; you're a lifelong learner, ready to adapt and grow.
