Enjoy rewarding medicine, real variety, and a life outside work. If you love clinical variety, enjoy working with good people, and want a job that fits around real life, not the other way around, you’ll feel right at home here. This is mixed practice done well, in a team that values experience and balance.
Townsville Vet Clinic is a well-established, purpose-built mixed practice in North Queensland, running at roughly 45% small animal and 45% equine, with the remainder across small ruminants and reproduction work. They also provide a respected equine referral and second-opinion service, including complex medical and surgical cases, supported by a specialist equine surgeon on site.
You’ll be joining a 7-vet team backed by 9–10 experienced support staff — a genuinely collaborative group that enjoy high standards, good banter, and helping each other thrive. They aim to practice veterinary medicine at a level others in the region simply can’t, including the ability to hospitalise up to 16 horses, with a dedicated isolation unit for contagious cases.
The role is full-time across a 4-day working week, with a shared 1:4 on-call weekend rota and typically 1–2 nights per week. After an on-call weekend, you’ll enjoy a rostered 4-day weekend, because rest matters. Annual leave is 4 weeks, with overtime accrued as time off in lieu, often adding another couple of weeks across the year.
Your caseload will be genuinely mixed and deeply rewarding:
- Small animal medicine and surgery
- Equine hospital and ambulatory work
- Small ruminants
- Advanced equine referral cases
- Significant equine and canine reproduction work
They also proudly provide a teaching service for final-year veterinary students from James Cook University, with student groups rotating every two weeks for much of the year. If you enjoy mentoring, teaching, and shaping the next generation, this role offers that in spades.
What’s on offer:
- Salary up to $150,000 + Super, depending on experience
- $2,000 CPD allowance plus all usual fees paid
- Company vehicle for ambulatory and after-hours work
- Modern facilities: digital radiography, advanced ultrasound, arthroscopy, endoscopy, orthopaedics, ASIF instrumentation, in-house lab, and more
- Minimum 4–5 years’ experience preferred
- Start ASAP (or flexible for the right person)
