We are working with a well-established, RCVS-accredited hospital and emergency clinic seeking an experienced Out-of-Hours (OOH) Veterinary Surgeon to join their dedicated night team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a large, supportive team of 70 colleagues, including 15 vets, 21 RVNs, 9 SVNs, 6 VCAs, and a strong administrative and management team.

The Role

  • 27 hours per week contract
  • 7 nights on, 14 nights off rota
  • Shifts: 8:00pm – 8:00am
  • Consults: 30-minute OOH appointments as standard
  • No accommodation provided

You will be part of a dedicated and well-supported night team, including:

  • 1 Night Nurse
  • 1 Night VCA
  • Receptionist until 10pm
  • Additional Twilight Nurse until midnight

Clinical Expectations

As an advanced practice, this role requires a confident and capable clinician who can work independently overnight. You will be expected to routinely perform and manage:

  • Caesarean sections
  • Pyometra surgeries
  • Exploratory laparotomies (including enterotomy and enterectomy)
  • Complex medical cases such as:
  • Addison’s disease
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis
  • Severe pancreatitis

Support & Development

Access to certificate holders in: Surgery, Medicine, Endosurgery, Dentistry. Strong day team support for complex or challenging cases. Certificate sponsorship actively encouraged.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous OOH/ECC experience preferred
  • Ability to work confidently and independently in a night setting
  • Strong surgical and medical competency

Package

  • Salary: £60,000
  • CPD allowance: £1,000 annually
