Overview
This apprenticeship offers a structured and supported way to begin a career in offshore wind, combining learning, hands‑on experience and real responsibility in a safety‑focused environment.
As an Offshore Service Technician Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced Vestas technicians to maintain offshore wind turbines, developing core mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic skills through a mix of college study, specialist training, and supervised offshore work.
Responsibilities
- Support scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities on offshore wind turbines.
- Develop mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical fault‑finding skills under supervision.
- Work safely at heights and in offshore environments, handling tools and complex equipment correctly.
- Assist in planning maintenance tasks by preparing tools, spares, and materials.
- Troubleshoot turbine components and learn how repair and replacement decisions are made.
- Record work activities, materials, and time using Vestas systems to support accurate reporting and continuous improvement.
- Always follow Vestas Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) standards and safe working practices.
Qualifications
- Scotland: Strong National 5s and/or Highers in Mathematics and/or Physics.
- England: GCSEs (Grade 5/C or above) and/or A‑Levels in Mathematics and/or Physics.
- Equivalent: Relevant Level 3 vocational certifications (e.g. BTEC Nationals, T‑Levels, or City & Guilds) in Engineering or Science disciplines.
Location Requirement
- The first year of the programme is college‑based in Arbroath, Scotland.
- As the apprenticeship progresses, you must be willing and able to travel to wind farm sites across the UK.
Other Requirements
- Ability to work at heights and offshore.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
- Minimum age 18 (due to offshore health and safety regulations).
