At Vestas, our offshore technicians play a vital role in keeping wind turbines operating safely and efficiently at sea, helping to deliver clean energy to the UK. This apprenticeship offers a structured and supported way to begin a career in offshore wind, combining learning, hands‑on experience, and real responsibility in a safety‑focused environment.
As an Offshore Service Technician Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced Vestas technicians and gain practical experience maintaining offshore wind turbines. You'll develop core mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic skills through a mix of college study, specialist training, and supervised offshore work, gradually building confidence and technical capability over the course of the programme.
Responsibilities- Work alongside experienced technicians, supporting scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities on offshore wind turbines.
- Develop mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical fault‑finding skills under supervision.
- Work safely at heights and in offshore environments, handling tools and complex equipment correctly.
- Support the planning of maintenance tasks by helping prepare tools, spares, and materials.
- Assist with troubleshooting turbine components and learning how repair and replacement decisions are made.
- Learn how work activities, materials, and time are recorded using Vestas systems to support accurate reporting and continuous improvement.
- Always follow Vestas Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards and safe working practices.
- Scotland: Strong National 5s and/or Highers in Mathematics and/or Physics.
- England: GCSEs (Grade 5/C or above) and/or A‑Levels in Mathematics and/or Physics.
- Equivalent: We also welcome relevant Level 3 vocational certifications (e.g., BTEC Nationals, T‑Levels, or City & Guilds) in Engineering or Science disciplines.
The first year of the programme is college‑based in Arbroath, Scotland. As the apprenticeship progresses, you must be willing and able to travel to wind farm sites across the UK. Your work location will be in GB, Montrose.

Our intensive four‑year apprenticeship programme combines academic learning, safety and technical training, and hands‑on offshore experience. You will benefit from a competitive apprentice salary with a generous offshore working allowance, alongside a comprehensive package that includes a pension scheme, healthcare, dental care, and access to Vestas Perkz. Accommodation and travel are provided when required, and you will receive GWO and Vestas‑specific technical training. Upon successful completion, you will be fully qualified to work as an Offshore Service Technician, either based at a specific offshore wind farm or supporting Vestas UK offshore sites, with opportunities to progress into a range of technical and professional pathways as your career develops.
