About the role
The Application Specialist role is a key technical position at The Very Group, focused on supporting, maintaining, and optimising business-critical applications. This role involves hands-on work, following best practices, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality solutions that align with organisational goals.
The Application Specialist is responsible for application management, troubleshooting, and providing support to ensure smooth operations. The role also involves collaborating with team members, learning new technologies, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives to support growth and innovation.
This position plays an important role in ensuring applications perform effectively, helping The Very Group deliver excellent customer service and achieve its strategic objectives.
About the Team
We’re creating a brand-new AdTech (Advertising Technologies) squad encompassing the digital tools, software and platforms TVG use to manage, deliver, target and analyse digital marketing activity. This squad will be central to The Very Group’s evolution in digital marketing.
This hybrid, cross-functional team will consist of software and data engineers, data specialists, and analysts, collaborating to deliver an ambitious and innovative roadmap. Operating at the intersection of software, data, privacy, and digital marketing, the team will develop solutions that drive real business impact. The squad is accountable for key capabilities such as:
- The collection and management of user consent through cookie management
- Data integrations with our trusted 3rd partiesthat provide the TVG Marketing team with quality, rich data to feed campaign execution and measurement
- First Party Data Activation – leveraging our data asset to improve the customer experience and drive customer engagement
- Oversight of digital data management and tagging across diverse platforms
- Orchestration of servicesIntegration and orchestration of services acrossAWS,Google Cloud, Celebrus and OneTrust
Key Responsibilities
Application Support and Maintenance
- Provide daily support to ensure application availability and performance.
- Troubleshoot issues, manage user access, and monitor performance for improvements.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Act as a bridge between business users, IT teams, and vendors/suppliers.
- Gather requirements, document needs, and provide user training (where applicable).
System Optimisation and Enhancements
- Identify optimisation opportunities and collaborate on config changes, updates, patches, and upgrades.
- Ensure thorough testing and documentation of changes.
Incident and Problem Management
- Resolve incidents within SLAs, conduct root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents and resolutions.
Compliance and Security
- Ensure applications meet organisational policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Work with security teams to address vulnerabilities and maintain data integrity.
Reporting and Documentation
- Maintain detailed documentation of configurations and workflows.
- Generate performance and incident reports, contributing to team knowledge-sharing.
Essential knowledge and skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in application management tools and methodologies.
- Knowledge of ITIL processes (incident, problem, and change management).
- Familiarity with database management, APIs, and system integrations.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven experience in application support, management, or a similar role.
- Experience working with enterprise applications (e.g., ERP, CRM, or bespoke systems).
- Certifications in relevant technologies or ITIL framework (desirable).
- Ability to explain complex technical Information to a userbase unfamiliar with technical language.
- Stakeholder and 3rd party management with strong communication skills
- Ability to lead, collaborate and influence decision making.
- Strong technical and mathematical skills.
Desirable knowledge and skills
- Possess a strong knowledge of Google Marketing Platform, including Google Tag Manager (GTM).
- Able to perform high-level analysis within GMP platforms such as GA4 and Floodlight to extract insights and support marketing efforts.
- Demonstrate strong skills in front-end technologies, including JavaScript, CSS, and HTML
- Utilise programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and database management tools (e.g., SQL)
- Awareness of customer data SaaS applications such as Celebrus & Zeta
