The Senior Project IT Engineer is a client-focused technical leader who takes ownership of IT delivery across a designated group of customers. This includes designing and implementing infrastructure projects, providing high-level support, and building long-term relationships through reliable, solution-led service.
In this role, you’ll work closely with clients across sectors, including education, to understand their needs, plan future improvements, and deliver projects that align with their goals. You’ll act as both an escalation point and a proactive partner, combining deep technical knowledge with a strong customer focus. You’ll also support a small team, helping them stay aligned to project timelines, technical standards and the expectations of the client.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a managed service environment and be confident leading projects involving technologies such as Office 365, Windows Server, virtualisation platforms, networking and backups. You should be comfortable both working independently and collaborating closely with wider technical and leadership teams.
Key responsibilities- Deliver end-to-end IT infrastructure projects for a defined group of clients.
- Provide on-site and remote support as a senior escalation point.
- Take ownership of the client relationship from a technical standpoint.
- Assist in planning and design for future improvements to client environments.
- Ensure accurate documentation and high technical standards are maintained.
- Support and mentor junior engineers involved in shared delivery.
- Proven experience in an MSP or multi-client technical support role.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Office 365, Google, MDM, Cyber Security & Compliance, Migrations, Networking and Virtualisation.
- Confident delivering technical projects independently.
- Familiarity with backup platforms, patching, monitoring, and OS troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting education clients (desirable but not essential).
- Proven track record of becoming the main technical lead for customers.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites.
- £30,000 to £45,000 depending on experience.
