A global Financial Markets Trading organisation is looking for an Applied AI Engineer to help its technology and commercial teams adopt generative AI safely and effectively.
This is a practical, hands-on role focused on turning business requirements into reliable AI tools and workflows.
You will work with stakeholders across trading, analytics, operations and technology to identify where AI can reduce manual work, improve the quality of analysis and support better decision-making.
Rather than concentrating solely on model development, the role covers the wider implementation of enterprise AI.
This includes configuring AI assistants and agents, developing knowledge bases, designing context and prompts, improving document retrieval, evaluating outputs and helping users adopt new tools successfully.
The Role
- Work with technical and business stakeholders to identify suitable use cases for generative AI.
- Configure AI assistants, agents, knowledge bases, model settings and tool integrations.
- Design system instructions, prompt templates, examples, reference materials, guardrails and structured output formats.
- Build and improve retrieval-augmented generation and document intelligence workflows.
- Support document ingestion, metadata design, information retrieval, structured data extraction and output validation.
- Test AI-generated outputs for accuracy, completeness, relevance, usability and grounding in approved information sources.
- Create reusable templates, playbooks, demonstrations and supporting documentation.
- Translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Explain the capabilities, limitations and risks of AI tools to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Keep up to date with developments in enterprise AI, AI agents, context engineering, retrieval methods and evaluation techniques.
You should have
- Experience within applied AI, data analytics, business analysis, automation, technology enablement, systems configuration or a related area.
- Practical experience using generative AI to support analysis, research, documentation, coding, automation or business productivity.
- A good understanding of large language model concepts, including prompting, context windows, retrieval, structured outputs, model selection and output evaluation.
- Familiarity with applied AI techniques such as retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, vector search, document extraction, tool calling, agent-based workflows and human review.
- Strong Python and SQL skills.
- Experience with relevant development tools and libraries, which could include Lang Chain, Lang Graph, Pydantic, Num Py and Fast API.
- The ability to work with APIs, JSON, version control and lightweight automation or prototyping tools.
- The ability to translate operational requirements into clear technical specifications.
- An understanding of responsible AI practices, including data sensitivity, access controls, auditability and escalation of higher-risk use cases.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently within a fast-moving environment.
This is an opportunity to work on practical AI adoption within a complex, commercially focused environment.
You will have direct exposure to business users and technical teams, helping shape how enterprise AI is introduced, governed and used across the organisation.
The position would suit someone who combines strong technical foundations with the communication skills needed to turn emerging AI capabilities into useful and repeatable business solutions.
