This is a self-employed, commission-only role. You will operate as an independent contractor, responsible for your own tax, vehicle, travel costs and pension. There is no base salary. Earnings are entirely performance-based, uncapped on the upside, variable on the downside. If you thrive with autonomy and are comfortable generating your own pipeline and income, read on.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR?
- Already self-employed, or fully comfortable operating without a salary. You know the rhythm of commission life - finding leads, managing pipeline, living off results.
- 1+ years B2B sales or business development experience, ideally field-based. Background in insurance, telecoms, facilities, compliance or professional services is a strong fit.
- Full UK driving licence and your own vehicle. This is a field role - site visits and client meetings are central to how deals get done.
- Self-discipline to manage your own diary, activity levels and pipeline without oversight. You set your own targets and hold yourself to them.
- Genuine comfort with variable earnings. Consistency through the slow months is non-negotiable.
WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO
- Prospect relentlessly - Cold calls, LinkedIn outreach, industrial estate visits, trade shows, networking and referrals. You're targeting operations directors, facilities managers, finance controllers, estate managers and compliance leads - people who manage physical assets and feel the audit pressure.
- Create urgency - A major part of this role is surfacing the pain. "How do you prove asset ownership during an audit?" "What happens if equipment disappears between sites?" "Could you pass an insurance inspection tomorrow?" You make companies feel the cost of poor asset tracking.
- Close deals - Run pipeline from first conversation to signed contract. Scope the job, estimate asset volumes, negotiate pricing, get it over the line. Apex's team takes it from there.
- Build recurring revenue - Annual re-audits, new project phases, expanded site coverage. One client relationship can compound into years of repeat commission.
WHERE YOU'LL HUNT
- Construction Pain: Equipment theft, multi-site chaos, project handover disputes. Your angle: "We GPS-track and barcode your kit. 40% loss reduction, clean handovers."
- Logistics & Transport Pain: Fleet visibility gaps, compliance failures, chain-of-custody gaps. Your angle: "Real-time tracking with audit trails. Regulatory-ready documentation."
- Manufacturing Pain: Untracked machinery, unplanned downtime, maintenance blind spots. Your angle: "Digital registers linked to condition monitoring. Optimised schedules."
- Infrastructure Pain: Dispersed assets, no single view, project oversight nightmares. Your angle: "Centralised dashboards. One view across all sites and phases."
- Energy Pain: Regulatory pressure, high-value equipment risk, audit scrutiny. Your angle: "Independent compliance audits. Evidence-based, audit-ready reporting."
