Department: Trading & FX

Role Overview: We’re seeking a driven and results-oriented Senior FX Trader who is excited to lead our trading efforts in high-growth, complex currency corridors. In this role, you will be expected to achieve key milestones such as optimising P&L performance across our core EM books, expanding our liquidity network to ensure best‑in‑class execution, and driving the scaling of our automated trading ecosystem. You will play a pivotal role in Verto’s mission to institutionalise FX access in frontier markets, leveraging your expertise in market making and risk management to provide seamless liquidity for our global client base.

You will:

  • Drive sustainable P&L growth by managing a high‑velocity flow book, balancing institutional liquidity with platform‑driven demand to capture optimal spreads.
  • Spearhead market‑making strategies in illiquid corridors (NGN, KES, TZS), establishing Verto as a reliable price‑maker during peak volatility and market openings.
  • Optimise portfolio yield through sophisticated position management, utilising deep market insights to navigate the divergence between official and parallel market rates.
  • Enhance capital efficiency by implementing advanced liquidity management techniques and optimising settlement cycles across multi‑jurisdictional accounts.
  • Drive profitability by aggregating fragmented liquidity flows into executable wholesale positions.
  • Scale Verto’s market footprint by diversifying our counterparty network, including Tier‑1 banks, local liquidity providers, and institutional speculators.
  • Mitigate balance sheet risk through proactive hedging and the use of forward‑dated instruments to protect against macro‑economic shifts in emerging economies.
  • Champion operational excellence by ensuring all trading activities align with global safeguarding standards and internal risk appetite frameworks.
  • Accelerate the transition to a low‑touch trading environment by collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to automate core execution and settlement workflows, driving operational scalability and increasing Straight‑Through Processing (STP) rates.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Active Book Management: Overseeing the daily trading book, managing net open positions (NOP), and making data‑driven decisions on risk retention vs. external hedging.
  • Strategic Price Discovery: Synthesising global macro data and local market intelligence to provide competitive, real‑time pricing across the Verto platform and OTC desk.
  • Execution Leadership: Managing high‑value OTC transactions and maintaining professional execution standards across all institutional communication channels.
  • End‑to‑End Trade Oversight: Collaborating with Middle Office and Treasury to ensure seamless physical delivery, particularly in markets with complex regulatory or liquidity constraints.
  • Risk & Compliance: Maintaining a rigorous control environment, ensuring all trades are executed within credit limits and meeting safeguarding requirements.
  • Counterparty Relationship Management: Acting as a key point of contact for liquidity providers and institutional clients, fostering long‑term partnerships built on execution quality.
  • Product Collaboration: Partnering with Product and Engineering teams to refine automated pricing algorithms and internal trading tools for better scalability.
  • Market Analysis: Providing regular insights and updates on emerging market trends to internal stakeholders to inform broader business strategy.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: A University degree (preferably in Finance, Economics, or a quantitative field) is required.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in FX Trading or Market Making, with a demonstrable track record in Emerging or Frontier Markets.
  • Market Insight: A deep understanding of the structural nuances of African and EEMEA markets, including regulatory hurdles and liquidity dynamics.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Bloomberg and trading platforms; experience with algorithmic or platform‑based trading is a significant plus.
  • Quantitative Skills: Strong ability to analyse complex data sets to identify pricing trends and optimise risk‑adjusted returns.
  • Communication: Elite negotiation skills and the ability to represent the firm professionally in fast‑moving, high‑stakes environments.

Perks:

  • Insurance paid by the company
  • Health and wellness benefits (with specific added benefits depending on the location of the role)
  • Yearly salary review based on inflation, personal and business performance
  • Access to entire Udemy’s library
  • Budget for professional development courses
  • Work‑From‑Anywhere policy for certain durations
  • Integration programme (opportunity to work from our global offices)
  • Regular team social events
  • Pension scheme (depending on the role location)
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Location specific benefits like car lease policy, cycle to work, gym membership, etc.

You’ll Fit Right In If You:

  • Love asking "why?"
  • Value solving problems over just completing tasks
  • Understand sync vs. async communication practices
  • Thrive in ambiguity and change
  • Actively seek feedback
  • Prioritise impact over activity
  • Are fun to work with - we love good humour!

Culture:

  • Mission‑Driven Impact Work: Be at the forefront of simplifying cross‑border payments, directly contributing to a borderless future for global businesses, particularly in emerging markets.
  • High Performance & Ownership: We empower you to take risks, be results‑driven, and take ownership. Act fast, deliver impactful results, and make the impossible possible.
