About Verto: At Verto, we're on a mission to democratise global finance and empower businesses in Emerging Markets to reach the world. Founded by British-Nigerian entrepreneurs Ola Oyetayo and Anthony Oduu, our roots in Africa provided a firsthand understanding of the significant challenges businesses face with cross-border payments, ranging from illiquid currencies and high fees to slow transactions. This deep-rooted insight is why Africa remains a core focus, as we're committed to bridging the gap between emerging and developed markets and fostering global economic growth.
What started as an FX solution for the Nigerian Naira has evolved into a market-leading platform, enabling thousands of businesses to seamlessly transfer billions of dollars annually. We believe that where you do business shouldn’t determine your success or ability to scale. We're creating equal access to the easy payment and liquidity solutions that are already a given in developed markets.
We're not alone in realising this crucial need; we’re backed by world‑class investors including Y‑Combinator, Quona, and MEVP. With Verto receiving the Milken‑Motsepe Prize, appearing on CNBC's list of fastest growing UK companies, the Deloitte Fast 50 and Sifted’s fastest‑growing UK tech companies, we are building a seamless cross‑border payment future.
Role Overview: We are seeking a high‑energy, detail‑oriented Junior FX Trader to join our trading desk and support our expansion into complex, high‑growth currency corridors. In this role, you will support daily operations, manage high‑volume transaction flows across frontier markets, and work closely with Senior Traders to develop market‑making skills. This is a unique opportunity to build a professional FX trading career in a fast‑paced fintech environment by contributing to active market management and liquidity provision.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Assist in managing aggregated client flows and help accumulate or liquidate residual risk when market rates are favorable to support P&L performance.
- Build a deep understanding of illiquid corridors such as NGN, KES, TZS, and XOF to learn how to quote competitive rates despite market imbalances.
- Learn and uphold standard trading protocols to ensure all agreed transactions are legally and operationally binding.
- Support capital efficiency by assisting in value date matching and ensuring funds are available to meet payout obligations.
- Track a range of pricing tools, including Bloomberg and intraday market trends, to ensure the firm’s pricing remains competitive.
- Identify opportunities to match buyers and sellers simultaneously to lock in risk‑free margins.
- Manage the daily lifecycle of a trade—from early morning quotes to evening safeguarding deadlines—with high operational discipline.
- Collaborate with the Middle Office to ensure net positions are correctly reflected in accounts to meet regulatory and safeguarding requirements.
- Review automated risk reports, check overnight client activity, and verify bank balances before the market opens for daily desk setup.
- Adjust exchange rate spreads on the automated platform to protect the firm from volatility during overnight and weekend periods.
- Manage multiple institutional communication groups to gauge intraday supply and demand dynamics.
- Issue trade tickets following deal confirmations to formalize notional amounts, rates, and value dates.
- Perform physical balance checks for restrictive markets to ensure fund availability before executing sales.
- Track client funding windows and ensure exchange deals are funded within the required 24‑hour window.
- Provide the desk with live updates on price sensitivity and volume changes at specific rate levels.
- Act as a bridge between the trading desk and the Operations team to track the movement of funds through various banking partners.
What You Need:
- 1–3 years of experience in a financial services environment, with a foundational understanding of FX terminology and pricing increments.
- A University degree, preferably in Finance, Economics, or a quantitative field.
- Strong analytical rigour and comfort working with exchange rate movements and complex data sets.
- High proficiency in MS Excel for managing and analyzing trading data.
- The ability to maintain focus and professional decorum in fast‑moving, high‑stakes communication environments.
- A foundational understanding of risk management strategies and the discipline to monitor unrealised profit and loss.
- Full commitment to operational hours, including early morning starts to capture market openings across various time zones.
Best If You Have:
- Previous experience operating within a fast‑scaling FinTech or payments company.
- A professional background specifically in FX operations, middle office, or junior trading.
- Hands‑on familiarity with Bloomberg terminal and other professional financial data platforms.
Life At Verto:

- Regular team social events
- Pension scheme (depending on the role location)
