Location Summary: London, England – Verto London is a study‑abroad program for first‑year university students, offering credit‑bearing courses taught by the University of New Haven.
Position Summary: We are seeking highly motivated, student‑oriented educators who bring courses to life through active classroom learning and experiential education. Faculty will teach traditional face‑to‑face classes and take students into the community, working with program staff to embed active and experiential activities throughout the course.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver course(s) utilizing the provided academic policies, course syllabi, LMS (Canvas), textbook resources, templates, and timelines.
- Adhere to all local and global faculty and course requirements, including delivery of all expected contact hours and compliance with the teaching schedule.
- Demonstrate appropriate conduct and treat all students, faculty, and staff with respect to create an inclusive learning environment.
- Use the standard Physics syllabus template calibrated across Verto sites to ensure quality and rigor.
- Develop relevant, discipline‑based, up‑to‑date course content and applied learning experiences, advancing curricular experimentation (active and experiential learning, student development, assessment, technology).
- Evaluate students’ homework, provide regular and formative feedback, and score student work in a timely, constructive manner.
- Assess mastery of Course Objectives and Student Learning Outcomes.
- Participate in faculty training and development: up to ten hours before the semester and an additional five hours of ongoing professional development.
- Attend regular faculty meetings, and for returning faculty, contribute to peer support and curriculum projects.
- Teach all scheduled courses, host weekly office hours, respond promptly to student inquiries, and communicate with local academic staff during emergencies.
- Champion student success by monitoring attendance and engagement, providing holistic support, and directing students to learning support services and interventions.
- Enforce policies on attendance and academic integrity, addressing grading questions and appeals in consultation with local staff.
- Maintain accurate academic records, submitting grades on time through the LMS and the Academic Provider’s grade reporting software (Banner); respond to grade disputes promptly.
- Foster respectful, student‑centered learning environments that adhere to Verto values.
- Sub‑responsibilities include helping students develop academic identity and foundational skills with appropriate challenge and support, using professional language and tone, modeling constructive feedback and conflict negotiation, managing the classroom actively and considering power dynamics in faculty‑student relationships, and auditing course materials to include diverse perspectives through readings, assignments, and activities.
- Build and maintain positive, collaborative, professional relationships with participants, staff, and community partners.
- Share feedback with local and global Verto academic leaders to recommend academic excellence and faculty support needs.
- Participate in curriculum development projects and assessment initiatives as directed by the University of New Haven and Verto Education.
- Carry out other duties as reasonably assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Master’s degree required; terminal degree (PhD) in Physics or a closely related field preferred.
- Minimum 18 graduate credits in the relevant field of study.
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience in Physics, with at least one year at the university level.
- Demonstrated success teaching students with varied learning styles and abilities.
- Proven record of working successfully with students of diverse economic, racial, cultural, and educational backgrounds.
- Openness to feedback and continuous improvement strategies.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable implementing policies and classroom standards that align with established protocols.
- Passion for active, experiential, reflective, and discussion‑based learning and for helping students make meaning from experiences.
- Eager to learn from colleagues and engaged in open collaboration and teamwork.
- Legal right to work in the country for the full program duration; Verto Education does not sponsor visas or permits of stay.
