Mechanical Design Engineer in Biggleswade

Job Description

Mechanical Design Engineer / CAD Engineer / Machinery Design Engineer required to join a manufacturer of bespoke automated machinery and packaging systems based in Biggleswade.

The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing custom machines, upgrades, and retrofits using SolidWorks and AutoCAD, supporting projects from concept through to production and documentation.

You’ll have a strong background in mechanical design within a machinery or automation environment, with experience producing technical drawings, BOMs, and pneumatic schematics for bespoke equipment.

• Up to £55,000 depending on experience

Based in Biggleswade

Key Responsibilities

• Create mechanical designs in SolidWorks for new machines and custom retrofits
• Produce 2D and 3D technical drawings, layouts, and assembly documentation
• Generate BOMs, pneumatic schematics, and machine manuals
• Liaise with design and production teams to resolve design or build issues
• Support validation documentation, test plans, and quality procedures

Requirements

• Experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer / CAD Engineer / Design & Development Engineer or similar
• 5+ years’ experience designing machinery or mechanical systems
• Proficient in SolidWorks; AutoCAD experience beneficial
• Experience designing and working with rotating components
• Familiar with BOM creation, pneumatics, and technical documentation
• Must be commutable to Biggleswade
