London Faculty Member: Physics

Verto is on a mission to provide the best possible start to college. We make travel and experiential education a core part of the first year, enabling students to begin their academic journey overseas before transferring to one of 70+ partner universities in the United States. We are building a more accessible, more impactful model of higher education.

Verto London is a unique study abroad program designed specifically for first‑year university students looking to start their college experience internationally. Operated by Verto Education, the program allows freshmen to spend their first semester or entire first year earning fully transferable US college credits while immersing themselves in British culture.

Successful candidates will be highly motivated, energetic, student‑oriented educators who bring courses to life for students through a combination of active classroom learning and experiential education. Faculty must possess a commitment to undergraduate teaching and experiential education, and be prepared to work with diverse students early in their higher education journey. Deeply engaged learning is a key element of teaching.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and deliver courses utilizing the provided academic policies, course syllabi and LMS (Canvas) and textbook resources, templates and timelines.
• Adhere to all local and global faculty and course requirements including delivery of all expected contact hours and adherence to the teaching schedule and curriculum.
• Demonstrate appropriate conduct and treat all students, faculty and staff with respect to create an inclusive environment.
• Utilise the Physics syllabus template that has been calibrated across the Verto sites to ensure standardization, quality assurance and academic rigor.
• Develop relevant, discipline‑based, up‑to‑date course content and applied learning experiences.
• Evaluate students’ homework and provide regular and formative feedback, and score student work in a timely and constructive manner.
• Assess student mastery of Course Objectives and Student Learning Outcomes in your courses.
• Attend regular faculty meetings (1x1 and group) throughout the semester.
• Teach all scheduled courses and host weekly office hours, respond in a timely specified manner to student inquiries.
• Champion student success by holistic student support, monitoring student attendance and student engagement.
• Educate participants and enforce policies on attendance and academic integrity.
• Follow established academic calendar(s), relevant parts of term and grading progress and policies, and maintain highly accurate academic records related to student enrollments, attendance and academic performance.
• Foster learning environments that are respectful and positive, conducive to early college student development.
• Build and maintain positive, collaborative, and professional relationships with program participants, staff, and community partners.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Master’s degree required, terminal degree (PhD) in Physics or a closely related field preferred.
• Minimum eighteen graduate credits in the field of study relevant to the course(s) of interest.
• A minimum of two years of teaching experience in Physics with at least one year teaching at the university level.
• Demonstrated success in teaching students with varied learning styles and abilities.
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Passion for active, experiential, reflective and discussion‑based learning.
• Must have the legal right to work in the country for the full program duration, prior to the start of the semester.

The successful candidates are highly collaborative. They prioritize engaged teaching practices and will work closely with team members within and across global Verto locations. Candidates achieve excellence in teaching and learning to support a diverse student body.

Enrollment Sizes & Course Details:

• Course assignments are typically 45 hours (3 U.S. credits) or 60 hours (4 U.S. credit) courses.
• Faculty may be invited to teach multiple sections of the same course, when possible, and/or multiple courses directly related to their academic field of expertise.
• Section enrollment varies by program location, scheduling, student enrollment, and classroom size.
