The Pre‑Order MV SWGR Electrical Designer – IEC is responsible for partnering with the EMEA Sales Team and the IEC SWGR product management team when looking at Medium Voltage Switchgear opportunities from an overall electrical design point of view. This role will analyze and do the initial electrical design / estimating, working closely with the EMEA pricing team, to come up with an estimate to support the quote to a customer. This includes partnering with the Vertiv Unify team to understand the controls and relay design for the overall system. The position will be located in Campsie, Northern Ireland or Ras Al‑Khaimah, United Arab Emirates co‑located with the MV SWGR IEC Order Engineering Teams.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the MV SWGR estimating team (pricing) to analyze the customer’s design requirements and support the CDE (Comply, Deviate, Exception) Process.
- Based on observations via the CDE process, provide design feedback and trends to the MV SWGR – IEC product management team so that the product portfolio roadmaps can be adjusted accordingly based on market trends.
- Prepare electrical schematics and designs to support the pre‑order quotation process (such as panel schedules, one‑lines, control logic diagrams) that would ultimately be the basis of design assuming the order is won.
- Work with Vertiv’s MV Breaker and MV Relay suppliers to understand performance characteristics that are to be incorporated into the ultimate Vertiv solution.
- Support Vertiv Procurement on MV electrical component analysis supporting the most competitive supply chains for Vertiv.
- If required, support MV SWGR R&D with the writing of FAT plans (factory acceptance test) for the quote process and ultimate execution.
- Provide and design VAVE alternatives (value add / value engineer) so that Vertiv MV SWGR quotes support the highest quality solution at the most competitive market price.
Qualifications:
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering preferred or equivalent experience in product engineering, manufacturing or marketing in the MV SWGR space.
- Masters in Electrical Engineering always beneficial but not required.
- Demonstratable experience in Engineering / Supply Chain or Manufacturing Operations and working with cross‑functional teams to identify and execute on priority actions.
- Ability to drive and accept change, continuous improvement processes.
- Must have demonstrable skills with Microsoft office applications, particularly Excel.
- Smartsheet and Power BI experience beneficial.
- AutoCAD, Solid Works and Creo experience beneficial as well.
- Ability to directly interface with customers and sales, at the executive and technical levels, required.
- Experience leading cross‑functional meetings and presenting to small groups, both in person and via digital conference calls (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.).
- NPDI (New Product Development Introduction) and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) experience.
- Demonstrated curiosity and a lifelong learner.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Comfortable working autonomously.
- Experience in introducing new processes to an existing organization.
- Demonstrated competence in problem solving, data analysis, & project management.
- Direct experience in MV SWGR IEC certification.
- Direct experience with low voltage and medium voltage components like circuit breaker, transformers, metering, arc flash mitigation equipment, etc.
