The LV Switchgear Technical R&D Project Manager leads the design, development, verification, and certification of new or enhanced low-voltage assemblies (up to 1000V AC/1500V DC). They manage the technical roadmap, from initial design concepts to final prototype testing, ensuring compliance with IEC 61439 and ensuring manufacturing readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & R&D Management: Lead R&D projects for LV switchgear panels, enclosures, and busbar systems, focusing on optimized thermal performance, short-circuit withstand, and cost-effective construction.
- IEC 61439 Compliance & Verification: Ensure all designs comply with IEC 61439-1 & 2 (General rules and Power switchgear/controlgear assemblies). Manage the 12 key design verifications (tests, calculations, or design rules).
- Prototype Testing & Validation: Oversee prototype testing, including Type Tests (temperature rise, short-circuit, IP rating, IK rating) and routine testing protocols for new products.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Coordinate between mechanical engineers, electrical designers, prototyping teams, and factory manufacturing to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM).
- Technical Documentation: Maintain comprehensive design dossiers, test reports, and technical construction files required for certification.
- Product Care & Improvement: Manage improvements to existing product lines (VA/VE - Value Analysis/Value Engineering) and troubleshoot technical failures.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 5-8 years of experience in LV switchgear engineering, with at least 3 years in a project management or technical lead role.
- Deep knowledge of IEC 61439 (Parts 1, 2, and 3) is mandatory.
- Experience with design verification by test (type testing) in accredited labs.
- Knowledge of CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) and design verification software preferred but not essential.
- Strong understanding of LV components integration (ABB, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Legrand, other brands).
- Third level qualification in Electrical/Electromechanical Engineering (demonstrable experience may be considered in lieu of this).

- IEC 60068: Environmental testing procedures (corrosion, heat, damp).
- IEC 60364: Electrical installations for buildings (for system grounding/protection).
